  • Ohm Question on Diezel cab

    Hi,

Here is a picture of the jack plate of my Diezel 4x12:

I use a 6505+ with options for 16, 8, or 4 ohm output. Which output should setting should I be using? Right now I have the output on the back of my 6505+ set to 16 ohm, and running into jack on my cab labeled Side A/Mono. Should I change my amp setting to 8 ohm output? Am I doing any potential harm to my gear the way I have it set currently?

I'm guessing 16 ohm in Side A/Mono is correct for your setup as described. If you used the cab in stereo then it would be 8 ohm into each, side A and side B. I' don't own a Diezel but thats how I'm reading that from your pic. OTOH, I see side B is labled 16 ohm as well  Anyway, if you run your amp setting on 8 ohm into a cab that is either 16 or 8 ohm, you shouln't damage the head. The amp is still seeing a load on it so although there may be a slight mismatch it shouldn't hurt it. In fact some people intentionally run their amps that way because they like the sound better one way or another.

My guess is that the mono mode is the two 16 Ohm sides in parallel, so you should choose 8 Ohm.

Agree. I would read that as stereo is 16 Ohm per side and 8 Ohm is the mono side. So choose 8 Ohm.

Interesting, that's a but confusing initially but everyone is right on. I ran into similar problem on a Bogner as it says on the back of the amp its 8ohms out (either 4 or 8, there's no 16 ) but also fine to run it into a 16ohm cab which is ok for a tube amp.
Solid State amp heads would be a different matter in reverse.
This is a pic from a 2x12 cab. The question was initially asked on another forum 2 years ago. Likely not the same guy but it is the same pic.

I agree with all the replies above, but if you want to make sure go over to Rig Talk and you can ask Peter Diezel directly.
