Just looking for suggestions for a good little practice amp. It's primary use will be for death metal. Gain is nice, but I also really want good articulation. Good ones for under $300?

Course, you can go with a used classic though these are not what I would consider as in the good little practice DM on the cheap.
Randall RG100 (not a practice amp), Marshall 8100 or Valvestate. Crate put out some decent tube and solid state metal oriented amps. The stealth and GFX series as far as I recall were good DM choices.

My little Roland Cube 20XL is a great amp. Onboard effects are pretty good and great gain. Tone is very good. Perfect for low volume practice or cranking it up to 11...!"Rule number one: In my van, it's Rush. All Rush, all the time. No exceptions. Rule number two: Nobody touch the red button. And I mean never touch the red button. Most importantly, rule number three: There's no jerking it in my van!"
