with Salvation 'Kraken' and 'Graphic OR' or stateside modding with a jaded Faith 'Stein' and 'Rverb' modules

Reason why you'd spend over a grand for this?
-Because buying a Krank and an Orange will put you well over that withouth the benefit of swapping modules if you ever get tired of the tone of one

By now there's quite some choice in modifications of the base modules

I saw that, but so far for a Dark Terror and 1x12 cab, I'm just at $800. I got a store demo head for cheap and muscian's friend had their GOUSA Olympic discount code that brought the cab to $369 shipped, including tax. If I don't like it I'll return it and try something else.

What sold me was the EMG tone it had and the fact it only has 3 knobs for simplicity. I'm tired of having to dial in gear to get a half decent sound, and the Orange sounded pretty amazing and versatile for having so few knobs.

If you like Arch Enemy, Carcass sounds nothing like it. But Arnott could never live the Carcass crown down... Arch Enemy got popular much more quickly, but at every show fans always screamed for Carcass covers. It is brutal death metal, but it's got some of the best groove that any band has ever done. Carcass is pretty epic.

      Sounds like a good purchase.

All this Carcass talk is making me miss that Heartwork album...man what album!

I can tell you that Roland is not for you. I have a Cube 80x that is very veratile and can do alot of different things but metal is probably the weakest part of it's range. I've been looking to upgrade for a while and I'll have to check out some of these suggestions.

And I was really considering the Roland... I had a BOSS practice amp that was a cheaper version of the old Rolands from the 80's that I quite liked, but it needed to be overdriven.

I don't particularly care for the orange color or their name, but in the end, the tone from all the various clips I heard all sounded pretty amazing. I did want something a little smaller, but the tone from the 7w option sounds perfect for practice and it seems with a larger cab it should be fine for rehearsal (if I were in a band) as well.

My teeth are grinding a bit.
And someone here owns one of my amps.

I'd jump in and say a Cygnus-7 head might get you close but I really need to try to
push it up front with a pedal to get that territory.

It's been on my plate to add yet another gain stage to the THREE it already has.
Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

MMII...have YOU tried anything in front of your Cyg-7?

Sometimes I'll put a TS in front but with low gain, kinda like a boost, but usually only at bedroom levels. That also allows me to use a lower gain on the head, but without the pedal I still don't need to max out the gain...there's still plenty on tap. When I had it hooked to a 2x12 open back, I had the volume dimed with the 2 gain stages around 75%. It was freakin loud, but it didn't hiss like the Orange demo above. I was nice to see those guys show how noisy hi gain amps can get.

                Thank you J.
Only pedal I have right now is a Bad Monkey.
I need to try it and see how much "Brootalz" I can get.

+1 I really dig mine. Sounds good at home and on stage with the band.

Would also recommend the 6505+ 1x12. The other guitar player in my band grabbed a used one for really cheap and it sounds quite good. He mod it into a small head.

Peavey Vypyr series has some nice high-gain models.

6505+112 more than useable at practise volumes sounds better boosted and with the loop jumped, just a patch cable to engage the buffer makes a suprising difference...

theres also the orange Jim Root head which is fairly low wattage, has a different pre to the terrors...
