I fear shipping amps a short distance, much less all the way to Russia. Chances are good that it will arrive in pieces. Get full insurance coverage.

I shipped my Engl Powerball to Indonesia. I shipped it in the original box and packing material and used USPS. It arrived without any issues. Key thing here is to insure it, like DonP said, and make absolutely certain that payment clears before you even think about shipping the amp. I have also shipped a Mesa Single Rectifier from Ohio to Tennessee with horrible results through FedEx. Arrived completely fucked. Insurance claim came through though in that scenario. I'll never use FedEx again though.

Funny story: I was selling an RR Custom on Ebay, and a dude in Russia wins the auction in spite of the fact that I stated that overseas bidders must contact me first to get a shipping quote. Well, the dude sends me a money via Western Union for the amount of the winning bid, and I told him I would have to get a shipping cost, and he would have to pay that before I would ship the guitar. I took it to UPS, Fedex, Canada Post, and USPS, and was told that either the case was too big, and that Russian customs would not accept it, or: "oh, we don't ship to that part of Russia, the delivery drivers are afraid for their lives". I think it was UPS told me that. Apparently, their trucks would just get jacked and often times the driver would be beaten severely. The only company who would ship it was DHI, and they wanted $660 to ship it from Niagara Falls NY to Russia. I sent the guy his money back. He understood.

Just tell him you only ship to a US address and have a buddy ship it to him from there. Trust me, they'll go for it. I just sold an SL3 to a guy in Russia, but it took a few emails before he realized I wasn't going to budge. I shipped it to California and he confirmed it arrived there in good shape. After that, the ball is in their court.

Not your buddy, his buddy, right?
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

Yes, a friend of his. I told him that I did not have experience shipping guitars to Russia and that I didn't feel comfortable doing so. He replied to me saying that he wanted me to ship it to his friend in California, who was then going to ship it to Russia. Sorry for being unclear.

What's cold blooded about it? He ships it to Russian guy's friend in California, then the friend ships to Russian guy in Russia.

Why does that sound like it should be the punch line of a Yakov Smirnoff joke?
