Hang out on the GearSlutz or The Gear Page and you hear a lot of cryptic shit about how toobz are the only way to go and how your are missing Harmonic Overtones, 3D, and Note Bloom isn't that great. Which equates to a lot of fucking bullshit wizardry that means absolutely nothing. If you enjoy it and love the sound that you get out of it, fuck everyone else's opinion. Not one person out on the crowd is going to know.

I use to play with other people for fun and live. I also had many tube amps from Mesa, Splawn, and Bogner. For myself, I found that not having the hassle of lugging around a a ton of gear just works for me. So, yeah, now I am mostly bedroom/living room guitarist but I have also played out many times with my shitty Axe-FX Ultra and II. The nice thing is that I hear a lot of comments from people who do play out and people that I have played at very high volumes with.

"Damn... that thing sounds insane. How much that rig cost?"

                  and also comments like...

"You need to work on your tone a bit, Your lows are too dominating and your highs are a little shrill...."

Now, just to qualify my position, I am not trying to justify my rig to you nor does it make a statement about some inferiority of tube amps or trying to preach modeling rigs VS tube amps. I personally like tube amps a lot. I just don't like the hassle that comes with them nor do I own a truck to haul all that shit around. I like my hotrod and it's small amount of trunk space. I figure that tone is a work in progress. The thing is that I put a lot of work into my hobby and when people give suggestions I try to learn as I go and make things right. It's a lot of work... just like it was with tube amps. I am a bedroom guitarist because I spend so much fucking time at a corporate job that where I spend 60-70 hours a week debugging and testing that I have no desire to sit and learn a bunch of fucking covers that I really don't care about. I love guitar and I love the way that it sounds under my control. PERIOD. I am just sick of people that cannot respect another persons opinion. What it finally comes down to is "Are you personally happy with what you are playing through." For me, that is a yes. If you don't like it, that is fine. I like the fact that you like your setup but, if you have to stand on your milk carton and take jabs well.... you and your metal and/or classic rock band can waste your breath along enjoying that ol' coke and a smile.

You really think building amps is black magic? They're basically just a bunch of passive electrical components and some tubes, and there really aren't that many different amp designs, only a handful. Have a look at some of those pictures Cygnus posts now and then. I and others have responded in your other thread, but you chose to ignore all the technical arguments, because in the end, you don't want to hear them, you just want to rant, and, in this case, derail the thread.

That's really the typical complaint as I've mentioned several times in the other thread, and it's not that big of a deal because it takes a few minor adjustments to a couple of knobs to mostly correct.

jg, i suppose all these "bedroom guitar players" don't know anything about real tube amp tone...
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

The only guitar player in that list that uses the Axe FX live is Dweezil. All the rest of them use boutique tube amps and cabinets. I could give you a rundown of who uses what but thats what Google is for. I will give you a few though. Guthrie uses Cornford. Steve Vai uses Carvin Legacy's.
Petrucci doesn't use the Axe FX live. He uses Mesa Boogie exclusively live and in the studio. He uses the Axe FX for effects only.
Some of the players on the list are session players that I never heard of. Mark Tremonti uses a few different tube amps live. He uses Mesa Boogie Rectifiers, Bogners and a few boutique amps. To be honest, many of the players on that list I have never heard of. My guess is they are session or clinic players.
Oh yea, Neal Schon uses Blackstar amps live. I saw them recently and he had full racks of them. He does mention that he uses the Axe FX and he mentions in an article that he loves it but he doesn't use it live. Not of the other guys he mention except for Dweezil use it live either.
Its all for the studio which is just a really fancy bedroom with lots of sliders and knobs. Regarding Dweezil, I read an article and he uses the Axe FX because he has to get so many complex textures and sounds live to recreate his dads music. I can't argue with that.

                          So... Devotee.... nice try bro!!!!
