  • Line 6 DT-25 head - nice!

Okay - fully expecting all the Line 6 haters to show up in force as usual, but I was trying out a guitar this weekend and saw the DT-25 head sitting on top of a Marshall cab, so knowing I can always dial up a decent tone on a L6 quickly, I plugged in.

    Holy hell!!!

I've had a pile of high end tube amps the last couple years, and currently run an AxeFx2 rig. This thing is finally the "real deal" from L6! This sucker was easy to dial in, and has great tones in all 4 modes. Add to that the ability to change it from Class A to A/B, and triode/pentode, and you have a LOT of cool tonal options. I have never enjoyed plugging into a dry amp...ever. I need my "delay crutch"! I walked out of the room with a smile after playing for about 45 minutes. I came back later in the afternoon just to see if I was "hearing things" - I was. GOOD tone!

I came back yesterday, and ordered a fresh one, along with the Pod HD500 to use in conjunction with it via the L6 Link. Can't wait!

So yourself a favor, and don't bother with the YouTube demos on this thing. Play one yourself. It's pretty f'in awesome. No kidding!

I gotta check one out Chris. With all the amps you have owned over the past year I would say you must have a good ear for good guitar tone.

...or terrible GAS!!! J/K please post indepth review once you get it (like I need to tell you). Since the AXE Ultra, I've never bothered to look at any other amp but would like to see how line6 have been responding to the AXE market.

I'm still keeping the Axe 2, but always try to have at least 2 rigs around...you know - for my ego!

I had ZERO AMP GAS after getting my Axe, but sometimes an amp just hits you between the eyes. I played it through a T-75 loaded Marshall 1960b cab, which is a good reference cab for me. It only gets better when I plug into my Greenback loaded cab, and I'm sure this will be no different, especially since its a low wattage head.

Yeah - the amps from the past couple years included a Friedman, Splawn, Orange, Mesa MK 4, Ceriatone, Bogner, a couple AxeFx, Marshall, and maybe a couple others... It's standing among some good company for sure. The thing that I liked the most was how quiet it was, and how it didn't have the digital "fizz" that most L6 amps tend to have.

Keep in mind that I am a historical L6 fan, but certainly would admit to their shortcomings. That said, they seem to have been addressed so far. We'll see once I hook the Pod Hd up to it. Guitar straight into the amp has impressed the shit outta me so far.

These thing do amazing things when paired with the HD pedalboards. Can't wait to hear your opinion there. I saw one at my local dealer and was a bit surprised at the price. I was expecting it to be a couple hundred bucks cheaper. I might try one out to have as a back up rig.

So I guess I need the one chord I don't have to integrate the Pod wih the head, so I just jammed straight in. I swear I wouldn't know this amp wasn't all tube if someone told me it was all tube. L6 has really come a long way in that regard. This should in NO way be compared to a Spider Valve. Not even close. I'm thoroughly impressed. I LOVE the gain channel, and can't wait to try out some of the others with a boost/OD.

I'll have to take some rig pics this weekend.

Does it do a grindy/dirty Fender clean? The guys in the company band were complaining that my amp is too metal (I told them I didn't understand what they meant because that not really possible.) so I'm kind of on the look out for a 'model' style combo.

The other guitar players in the band are all strat/tele into Fender amp guys so humbuckers into a gainy Marshall style amp causes them distress. Plus my amp, while only a 50 watter, does its best work at 'nosebleed' volumes where you kind of have to fight it to keep it under control. It's great for the metal band, but not so great when you're with the office group trying to cover Adelle and Eurythmics and stuff.

It does! The Marshall-ish crunch channel (2) stays pretty clean up to noon, and sounds fat. The Vox is cool too, and 2&3 both do low gain well - remember, Bogner designed this stuff, and he's a mid-gain guy these days. Channel 1 stays very clean through most of the tone band.

Whats the hi-gain like ? Is it loud enough to gig with via a 4x12?

It's Mesa-ish, but not really Recto, totally controllable, with actual usable EQ. More than adequate gain by 12:00-1:00. I don't gig, but will say this thing is pretty loud, and I run mine through a 4x12 w/Greenbacks.

                        UPDATE:

Well...I found the "chink in the armor" this week. The L6 Link. It's a wonderful thing if you pagan on using the preamps on the Pod as your sound. Not so wonderful if you want to use the DT's sounds. If you continue to use the POd for effects using L6 Link, it places the effects pre-preamp...not good for time-based effects, which is pretty much all I use. The Pod HD on its own? Great. But I didn't buy the DT so that I could use the Pod's preamps. I was VERY impressed by the DT's preamp sounds. It just needed a few things - a boost here and there, along with effects in the right spot in the signal chain.

Yesterday, I returned the Pod, and got the Line 6 M13. First thought - what an AMAZING and well thought out unit! In the couple hours I've spent with it, it has already long surpassed the TC Nova System. The fact alone that you can "split" the signal path, and put effects in front of the amp, or in the loop...brilliant. I think this is the answer for me. Line 6 continues to impress me. I guess I'll always be a fan.

It's kind of surprising that they didn't account for a 4CM style hookup using link that way.

Their pedal modelling is one of the things that impressed me the most when using the toneport interface. They really nailed the tape echos and other time based effects.

I might have been able to make some bastardized 4CM thing work with the Pod, but it kinda defeats the whole purpose.
