so, i know where i can get one STUPID cheap. but, i am wondering if i should even bother. i would throw it in my studio for recording "marshall" tones. i remember them sounding really good for what they are, but does it have that real marshall sound? i already have several amps - aside from the riveras, i also have an egnater tweaker, blackface fender vibro-champ and tremolux amps, a silverface fender twin and showman.

is the VS100 worth having for under $100? oh, everything on it works too....
    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

I'd snag it in a heartbeat.

Little trick, turn the effects mix all the way up, and make sure to engage the "power dimension" button.

This is what Chuck Schuldiner* used IIRC.

First off, I'm gonna cherish this moment.... :P

No sir. He used the 8100, from the first generation of the Valvestate series. The VS100 comes from the second gen, before the AVT models.

i played it last night and was not moved. i was remembering the 8100. the VS100 was wimpy....and the guy raised the price. guess he read online that it was a good head and worth around $250. i would have given him a little more than he was asking ($85) because I know I was getting too good of a deal, but he doubled the price...so he can sell to someone else.

Huh, a craigslist bait and switch.

Buyer: "I'll give you $500 for that Bengal SH2H you have listed for $2000"
              Seller: "Ok lets meet"
              Meet
Seller: "I changed my mind. I want $4000 for it"

yeah, something like that....it is actually a dealer friend of mine. he has a small shop and tries to move stuff fast and he knows i have been looking for a "good" marshall for cheap....so he offered it to me for what he got in for on trade. cool of him, initially, but the jack up was dickish consodering we do LOTS of business....

The first series of Valvestates (81** and 82**) were awesome. I've still got my 8240 2x12 stereo chorus combo I bought new around '92, and it's still going strong! I personally wouldn't bother with anything after those.

I had an 8100 and miss it(bought it new). I have a vs100 and the setup is a little different but do really like mine. I paid 236 without a pedal for the vs100.

If you're looking for a cheap Marshall that isn't screaming loud, I've just started messing with my 3203 head and it sounds pretty good for having a SS front end. Pumping my 1956 LP with P90's thru it, I get a very good Angus tone on the non-boost side. The boost side is fat and chunky - better for thrash or heavy metal. It sounded chunky even with the P90s, but the extra gain upped the 60hz noise. It's fun reading old threads about this amp if you do a search.

Like the Yngwie J. Malmsteen vs. the other ones without the J.
