Am I too late to the party? I'm still very happy with my Mini Recto and it's been almost a year since I got it. I got some clips on my YT page (not the ebst ones). If you got some questions let me know.

I agree with the "why go small" statement. I just don't see the point of a mini amp head unless of course you live in a dorm or a closet and you don't have another 12 inches to spare!
Or... maybe you aren't strong enough to carry a normal sized amp head and you need one of the mini's. I guess that could be possible for a wimp ass.
Also... when you finally get out of your bedroom in your parents house and you start playing live what are you going to do with a mini amp head except look like a tool onstage. Maybe the girls in the crowd will think its cute? Nope. Girls like guys who play manly amps.

Well, in my case, I got it as we rent a rehearsal room by the hour every week. The room got a PA, drums and cabs. I got a bit tired of lugging around my 6505 or my Marshall + 2 guitars + my fx bag every week. When I saw that small Mesa with the carrying case I said to myself: this is what I need.
The Mini Recto on top of a 4x12 sounds great is loud enough to compete with my drummer.
But I see your point jgcable, and once a month, I do bring a large amp! Gotta show that I'm still strong enough to carry one! lol But damn, I hate all those runs back and forth through the street, my car, into the stairs... With the Mini, it's only one travel.

It weighs 34lbs and thats really light for an amp head. I can't see any reason it couldn't be lugged around on a regular basis.
To give you a weight comparison...
The Mesa Boogie Single Rectifer Solo Series II head weighs 34lbs
The Mini Recto weighs 12lbs
Orange Dark Terror weighs 15lbs
Marshall JCM900 #4500 weighs 38lbs
Peavey 5150-II weighs 48.3lbs
Randall RM100 weighs 63lbs without modules!! Add 6lbs for modules.

I was really impressed with the versatility of the Mesa Transatlantic mini head. Not cheap over here though. If you want cheap, check out the 20 watt Jet City head. Simple, sounds good, Allan's are blowing them outHail yesterday

and Amazon showed the shippingweight for the RT at 46lbs
I guess those 2 including an FX unit and powerconditioner aren't what one would call a "compact rig""There's nothing taking away from the pure masculinity I possess"

I'm going a mini just for the fact of the 100watt monsters are heavy. The mini's are nice because they are in the 20lbs range.
I tired the Legacy 3....to dark of a sound...sounded nice but for myself who is in a cover band, I just felt it would not have the cleans that I'd like. Sold it.
Now, I'm in the process of checking out a tubemeister 36. My first one was a defect, sent it back...but my initial gut was.... "jury still out". The amp sounded nice but was very tight (?)...not a lot of ummffff .... a little thin sounding...I'm getting my replacement tonite and will have a chance to give it another go before I decide to sent if back.
