  • Mesa Single Rectifier tube question..

I have been gigging and rehearsing with my Single Recto half stack for about a year now. Its a Solo Series 2.
Lots of hours on it. My band rehearses once a week and we gig once a week on average. Anyway.. I notice the amp doesn't have the thump that it used to have. Its gotten a little midrangy and thin sounding. Would that be power tubes or preamp tubes?

I'd suspect Powertubes firstly they get beaten the most
Except the PI, Preamp tubes never have to work as hard and never wear as fast

Don't ask me about the rectifier tube though

I am thinking power tubes too because I did a few preamp tube swaps and nothing really changed. I bet the power tubes in my amp are at least 5 years old!!!

Definitely power tubes. I had the same symptoms in my Single Rec before one of the power tubes died.

The rectifier tubes work harder than all the other tubes because it's always working converting AC into DC for all the other tubes to use. If you are hard on the power tubes, the rec tube has to work hard too supplying DC for the power tubes to eat.

The Single Rec doesn't have a tube rectifier. It just has the diode rectifier.
