I put V30s and G12T75s in an X poattern in my older Carvin slant and it was a great sounding difference. Now I can get warm and chimey cleans, smooth OD, crunch, and over the top saturated high gain anytime I want. All the tones I want.. Marshall (59RR), Mesa (Erect), 5150 (Trilogy), compressed high gain (1086), and clean with tons of headroom (KH1). Some need my EQ on (in the series loop). What else are you running in loops or out front?
I use delay and an ISP noise gate in the loop. My pedalboard is ever changing, but the mainstays are- MXR Phase 90, Line 6 m13, Visual sound H2O, Visual sound double trouble, Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde, Suhr Riot, Digitech Whammy DT, Morley Steve Vai Wah, GFS tuner. I just sold the ISP and the H20. I think new pedalboard additions are going to be a TC Electronics Flashback delay and Hoof Fuzz pedal.

I'll look into speakers. Maybe Eminence is more up my alley.

Thats alot of stuff in the loop. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING that you put in the loop effects your tone unless you can bypass the loop.
If you want an amp that sounds more overdriven you need to drift towards the Mesa Mark Series amps.
If you want something on the darker side with a searing high you should be looking at a Peavey 5150 type amp
Fuzz usually comes from an amp that doesn't have enough preamp tube stages
Mud usually comes from speaker and cabinet selection.

A stock Peavey 5150 or 6505 or JSX or Triple XXX running through a 4 x 12 5150 cab loaded with stock Sheffields will give you everything you are looking for which would be slightly dark but with a searing top, it won't be muddy of fuzzy sounding but if you are looking for more of an overdriven sound and less crunch you could dial back the gain on the amp and use a tube screamer out in front.

This is what he posted that he has in his loop...

Ross - Have you looked into the presence/density board and make sure yours has the correct values? Does the presence not do anything till about 3:00 and then come on sort of all at once? And Density basically not do anything or much at all? I'm going through this right now. Always felt I needed my EQ in the loop no matter what cause the sound was dead and way, way dark. Cranked the presence (which I never had to do on an amp so I was refusing to do it on this one) and voila... Blanket lifted off my cab.. Getting ready to pull the board and either fix or send to Rob @ JF.

These amps really are different monsters and now that I'm accepting, instead of blowing off, that these small fixes make huge differences, it's like having a new toy again..

he stated he has two pedals in the loop and then listed the rest of the stuff on his board. You think he's running a phaser, a bunch of overdrive pedals, a wah, whammy & tuner in the loop?

My Presence and Density weren't working very good in my LB, but then I discovered 2 blown fuses on the right side. I was lop-sided LOL. Replaced the fuses and the amp works MUCH better on all 4 power tubes.

There's a known problem with the pots on the small board for the presence and density circuit. At some point, which I haven't heard of a definitive "when", the pot values and the values of a few caps were changed for the better. The older ones keep it sounding like there's a blanket over the cab till you get to about 3:00 and then shoots up so there's almost no tolerance to adjust. There's a thread here http://mtsforum.grailtone.com/viewto...+density+board and on page 2, Jaded Faith has the correct values for pots and caps about 2/3 of the way down. Here http://mtsforum.grailtone.com/viewto...board&start=15

                        He's got that covered with the RM100, SL+, EL34's

Mesas, Diezels, AC30s and SLOs maybe harder to mimick on the MTS range (poweramp Mojo), Marshall sounds can be done perfectly
