I finally got my bro to play some drums with bad boy.

I love it but, it's just too... hmmm... classic rock sounding?

I bought a Danelectro fish and chips EQ $30... I'm cheap... and a set of TAD 6L6GC-STR tubes to swap the El34.

Will update on the hopefully achievable metal tone.

I made a new video with just the amp distortion channels... no tube swaps yet.

        Sounds like plenty of grunt.
        Sounds good to me.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

There's way too much pick attack sound that the camera is not picking up.

Way too much mid range on the EL34's for me... I hate mid range frequency distortion and I don't care if it makes me sound like a moron when I say that.

          SCOOP BE GONE MIDS

I know you don't want to hear this but.... mids are what you hear when you are playing live. I assume you would buy a half stack to jam with a band or play live right? If so.. mids are where its at bro. 6L6 tubes aren't going to make the midrange go away but they will tighten up the bottom end a little. Like I said earlier.. my rhythm guitar player has a JSX. I have a Triple X that I use at smaller shows. Both amps have alot of midrange and sound amazing live.

Rule of thumb for live sound..... Cymbals and snare drum take over the high frequencies. Bass and kick drums take over the lows. The only thing left is the midrange. Thats for vocals and guitars. Period. End of story. If you have no midrange.. you might as well stay home.

Also... you get what you pay for with EQ's. That Fish and Chips EQ is pretty crappy in every respect. I use a high end Rane dual 40 band and sometimes thats not even enough. A Parametric is even better for fine tuning frequencies.
If you want something that is durable and good and won't kill your wallet.. MXR 6 or 10 band EQ or the Boss GE-7 which is pretty much the industry standard for good solid useable EQ's.

Hell, get a Boss Metal Zone and use that as a boost. Yes, you heard that right. I think it sucks as a distortion pedal on an amp's clean channel, but use it in front of a distorted amp... keep the distortion all the way down, boost the level, keep the bass/treble and mid/mid freq EQ at about 10:00 or so.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

I know... I'm cheap, not expecting much.

Had a mxr 10 band before... didn't feel it's worth the hundy price tag.

My behringer is the metal zone knock off... I'll try that... but I think I'll be ok with the new tubes and EQ.

                I also bought a MULLARD REISSUE 12AX7 ECC83 for the V1 and a Groove Tubes GT-12AX7-C for V2 or V3.

Will post another video when I get all the new stuff.

The tubes aren't going to do much in the JSX but post back and let us know.

So I just got back from the garage where my gear is.

Installed the 6L6's and WOW.... NO REALLY WOW... there was a 5150 hiding inside that amp. The overdrive channels jumped into some new level of kickass rocking badass mofo mojo jamming awesomeness.

I figured out this amp, with the EL34's in it the clean channel is where it's at... ready to take pedals like the neighborhood slut. With 6L6's is how these amps should be shipped out.

I took my camera but once I plugged in I couldn't put my Guitar down... played for almost 2 hours straight... I'm still smiling and my freaking cheeks hurt.

...also the fish and chips EQ is great, it does exactly what I wanted, scoops the mids, and has very little operating noise if any...

It's a Full on Shredding Machine now... plus the crunch channel jumped to life too... played with the knobs a little, straight up Back in Black distortion...

                      THIS AMP IS AMAZING

it sounds very sterile and lifeless to my ears. I don't mean that in a derogatory way. It would be well suited for black metal type of stuff the way you are running it. But for the tone you are shooting for you likely couldve got that sound out of a much less expensive package.

Could just be the way he recorded it to post that video. I would bet it sounds killer in person
