Scooping your mids doesn't mean you have to set the knob to 0. You should always remember that most of the guitar's frequency bandwidth lies in the mids.

EDIT: Turning the bass and treble up and the mids down all the way might sound cool in your bedroom but when you play with a drummer and a band, you'll get buried. I used to go for that scooped sound too but i quickly realised this. Eventually i figured out how to the right tone by boosting certain frequencies rather than cutting the mids altogether.

It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

I think what's going on is where I'm standing and the angle of the cab. Maybe a Slant cab would work better or maybe the drums have to be pushed back farther towards the wall.

I am not sure about the Peavey XXX and JSX, but my Carvin MTS 3200 amp has an active eq. I start at 5 and work forwards to raise the tone or backwards to cut the tone. I never owned an amp with an active eq and was all ass backwards at first. Basically 5 is starting at 0-I think

Well figured it out... the 6L6 tubes I bought were junk...? put the EL34's back in and the amp can cut through the drums no problem even with the mids scooped all the way out.

          I'm not mad, just disappointed...

With the EL34's the clean channel sounds much better anyway. All the wasted money on the tubes could have went towards a better EQ.

Now that the volume issue is sorted I'm thinking of a rack mounted EQ.

Thinking this one looks tasty... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-a...band-equalizer

Thoughts...? Remember I'm a cheap ass.

Do you already have a rack going? That many bands is a complete waste. You won't use 1/3 of them and a lot of those rack EQs add noise and/or suck tone.. Looks cool tho.. lol. You could get a used one way cheaper if you really want one. I had an old DOD one thatI played through for a bit that did a good job but was very noisy..

Exactly. EL34's are the way to go with that amp. If you want to do something with that quad of 6L6's let me know. I need to freshen up my 5150-II. I have a rack mount EQ that you might be interested. Its a dual 40 and that would give you all the shaping you could ever want. I don't use it.

Hell yeah man... at least I have some preamp tubes for backups now.

                    ...this is an amazing amp.
