  • NAD - a budget minded purchase

I am a f/t student, with 2 sems left before I get my K-12 teacher certification. Since my journey back to school, and giving up my previous career, I have been on a peasant's budget. I have been running my rack rig through my Zinky 50-watt combo for 2 years. Now the Zink is beginning to get road wear. I was time to find a power amp.

I just bought a 5881 powered Carvin TS100 on eBay. The price was reasonable, the wattage and tube power is what I needed, and the greater flexibility of cabinet combinations. I know it's not going to live up to my old VHT Two-Ninety-Two, but it will surpass my spare MOSValve 962, now serving as iPod amp for our outdoor/poolside speakers.

Anyone here have experience with one of these Carvin's? I have read that they are pretty transparent.

Its a very transparent robust power amp. I have owned several of them and never had an issue. Nice clean trouble free power. Good choice.

I use to run one of the first TS100 with an ADA MP1 back in the late 80's to early 90's. Never had any issues (or re-tube) and also found it very transparent.
I recently used it to power a Mesa Triaxis and it still works.
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....

Good to hear. I was also pleased to read that it comes in 10 lbs lighter than my VHT was. Carrying my rack with the VHT was job security for my chiro.
