  • Marshall JVM 410H Opinions

I have not been happy with my Mesa Roadster and was thinking I may be more of a Mark kind of guy. This weekend I briefly had a chance to play a JVM410H and it sounded good at low volumes. Only had 15 minutes (I was passing through Atlanta and made a quick stop by GC) to try it. I would like to spend more time with the JVM but it does have my attention. Been reading up on opinions of the Marshall and JVM forums but guess most of the opinions would be positive being a Marshall forum.
Any of you guys use them? What is your opinion?
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....

i loved my jvm for its range of tone options. that being said, my favorite of all amps was my dual rec. simply cause i dont use clean alot or any medium gain sounds. the midi capabilities were extremely convenient on the jvm. i felt it could do every sound except the brutal mesa modern. it could get really close tho. in my personal opinion my top 3 choices of amps would be mesa rectifier, marshall jvm, then the underrated carvin v3. it really depends on what youre going for. if i were playing in a coverband that required alot of different tones id go jvm. again thats just my personal opinion. hope that helps. ive never played the roadster tho.

I have a JVM and I like it a lot. It sounds good at any volume level in my opinion. I originally played on JCM 800's back in the day then went to the TSL's and now I use my JVM everyday. The Jvm has an awesome amount of sonic capabilities and a myriad of different tonal options. I really love the TSL's but that foot switch just sucked so much ass and the lead was so thin and flimsy. I went through three of those foot switches in the first year I had my TSL. That's one thing I love about the JVM. The foot switch works really well and the lead is detachable from the amp and the pedal. The TSL lead was fixed into the pedal and made it very easy to break. All said and done the JVM is a beast and you won't be disappointed if you grab one.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

JDR94 The Carvin V3 is an absolutely great amp bro. You're so right about it being under rated.

I haven't messed with the JVM much other than briefly at a guitar store. I have used the JCM 800 as well as DSL though. I think the JCM2000 (DSL)is underrated and works great for live gigging. I also have a Carvin V3 and you can pick those up fairly cheap used. I prefer the tone of the JCM2000 however. From Mesa, I have the Dual Recto and a Mark V. The Recto sounds good but has to be turned up, the tone changes drastically for the worse at low volume. I much prefer the Mark V. Even if you don't use the clean tones there are so many options in those 3 channels. It's just a nice sounding amp at lower or cranked volumes.

I have the JVM410HJS and it is an absolute beast. Best cleans I have heard in an amp that is not a Fender Tweed...and OD1 and 2 red channel is a high gain tone monster. It is simply the most versatile amp I have played. The built in noise gate is top notch. I definitely recommend this amp and yes it sounds awesome at bedroom levels as well as balls out!

I haven't tried a JVM but I hear good things. I'm firmly planted into the DSL100 camp. This amp does everything I want. Had it since 1998 and it's not going anywhere soon.

Been looking around the Marshall & JVM forums and "beast" seems to be used a lot when describing the JVM410. Finding they are noisy but nothing a noise gate could not solve. Definitely need to spend some more time playing one.

Don't blame you at all! The DSL is a great amp.

I do believe the Joe Satch model JVM has a built in noise gate IIRC. Spend the extra money on the Satch model if you need the gate. My JVM is pretty quiet. Not really noisy at all.

I think the Satch model is voiced a bit differently too, so you'd definitely want to play them both.

All channels on the JS models are voiced differently. Also the reverb has been replaced by per channel noise gates.

Yes, the Satch model (which I have) has a built in gate at the expense of the reverb that comes on the regular 410H. The gate is studio quality and works perfectly. I understand the 410H is a little hissy on the highest gain settings but what tube amp isn't? I think you cannot go wrong either way...get the regular 410H and put a noise pedal in the loop or go with the Satch model and if you want reverb put a good reverb pedal in the loop and you will never need another amp.

If an amp has a loop, I have zero issues with it not having a reverb. In fact I prefer it because then I can use my reverb of choice rather than being stuck with a spring or digital built in. The cleans in the JS model are based off of the 30th anniversary 6100 model.
