A friend of mine got the 50 watter. AWESOME sounding amp, takes pedals well. Only drawback is the clean/crunch channels use a shared volume and the volume drop when going to the clean channel is noticeable. Kind of a one trick pony, but its got GREAT tone.

I went to a seminar given by Chris Canella of EVH/Fender he demonstrated the 50 watt 5153. Try setting your gain to 1:30 on the clean channel and your volume jump will go away. That is how the designer told Chris to avoid the volume jump. It works for me. Try and let us know. Also try the lead channel with the gain at 9:00 to 10:00 some VH right there.

I am thinking of picking up the 50 watt. What is the versatility like with it? The 5150 was a one trick pony more or less (nailed its one trick though). Is this amp capable of more?I keep the bible in a pool of blood

I have never played a Peavy 5150 so could not comment. From many of the reviews I have read the clean channel on that amp was rubbish. The Fender 5150 III has three very usable channels including a good clean. IMO all 3 channels are very good with very distinct tonal characteristics. The biggest complaint on the 5150 III is the volume match between Channels 1 and 2 as the two channels share EQ and Master Volume. This issue goes away once the Gain on Channel 1 is set to one o'clock. The Amp was designed this way.
Lots of Youtube Demos available, but here is a video of Orianthi live playing the 5150 III (100 watt version).

I was extremely impressed with the 100 watter I tried out. The only thing that turned me off was the price considering where it is made. Fender must be making some serious profit on those.
