Well like many here I have owned damn near all of the big metal monster heads. Many early Marshall's, many Mesa's including some pre 500 dual's, Bogner's, Diezel, VHT, Krank, Peavey, several Splawn's, many Orange, BlackStar, Carvin, Egnater, almost ever ENGL and several more that I am failing to recall. With that said my all time favorite is easily an early edition ENGL Savage 120. I ran that one for 6 years and auditioned it against ever amp mention above and it slayed them all with ease. I even tried two other Savage's during that period and they did not hold up to my early version. Sadly I sold it when I convinced myself that I wanted to get into a more organic mode and settled on the ENGL Steve Morse. While the Morse was a great head it ultimately lacked the brutalness of the Savage. All the other amp's where good in there own right but I am a one trick pony. I play thrash and metal. I use 1 channel on an amp and control evrything with the roll of my volume. I don't need multiple channels. Sadly I'm just not that kinda player.

    ENGL Savage 1st.....
    Splawn 2nd....

I could list my 2 favorites of all time:

      Mesa/Boogie Quad preamp

Marshall 2104 50 watt combo ex Thin Lizzy 1978

I have had both for the longest time and they sound awsome when they work right.

      Former amps:

      Marshall Valvestate 8100 top

      Marshall 4100 dual reverb top

Dean Markley I-20 signature 100 watt top. I still got this one. Sound? I go back and forth. I guess the tubes needs to be replaced.

Marshall Major 1971 very clean condition.

I had great experience with all of them. None of them were really bad and did have tones and sound for good use somehow I did not see the reason for selling exept the Dean Markley top. The Major head sounded great but it is a very clean sounding amp and on 10 it is too loud but slightly distorted. Ad a boost to this and it sounds rocking but the plate voltage can't handle this so the KT88 tubes melt within time.

The 8100 was my first amp and I did get a 4*12 top 300 watt Marshall cab for it. Sadly I used a Digitech RP1 in the front and did not enjoy the tones that much at all from the amp.

The 2104 was just one lucky day in London UK looking at guitars in Denmarkstreet. I went to a vintage store and got to try a Strat. Which amp? I saw the combo by the wall kind of relived it was a Marshall (always feels like home somewhat). On low clean channel I had to ask the price for the amp after a few minutes. I then bought it on the spot. it was used by Thin Lizzy and at the time I had never even heard them.

I have to admit my least favorite amp was a Stilleto. I got one new from GC on close out, 600 new. Just could never fall in love with it.
