The JCM1 sounds pretty authentic, running a tube screamer on it worked great too. The only draw back for me was lack of effect loop. Was a little too dry sounding for me. The DSL1 sounded similar but more gain, has effect loop. JVM1 has most gain, effect loop and presence control. All three sound great as combos, but with 4x12's they're awesome.

Also have an Eleven rack thru powered monitors and it has some nice 800 sounds too. Another nice option.

You can't beat modelers at bedroom volumes. Get you a GDEC.

I just tried the H&K Tubemeister 18 combo and that sounded pretty damn good. The Engl Ironball samples I've heard sounded awesome, but that's running through a 4x12 which isn't what I really want to do..
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Recently picked up a Carvin V3M. Not only does it sound very good at bedroom volumes (7 watt mode), it has a lot of what I'll call "practical versatility". By that, I mean it does a cool job emulating several different amps - "Blackface" for cleans, "Old style Marshalls" for classic rock, "Hot-rodded Marshall" and "Mesa" for high gains. Not quite as fully versatile as a solid state modelling amp, but better all-tube tone more than compensates, IMHO. And, with the effects loop, you can use your same full effects setup as with your other full stack rig or whatever. Or just flip it to 50w mode and go.

Before that I had a Randall RM22. Loved the modular pre-amp thing - the tones were very authentic, and even more versatility. Only two channels, though. And swapping out modules - while very versatile - isn't very "practical" for even a band practice situation. Also, to get a decent high-gain tone, the volume would need to be well too high for a bedroom practice. You'd need a power attenuator for that. Cool amp, though.

I guess where I was going with these is an all-tube tone bedroom amp, where you can also flip a switch or whatever and bring it along to do a band practice or small venue gig.

But if you're just looking for a straight-up small bedroom amp for nothing but low-volume home practice with good tones (but not used for anything else), I'd consider going with a Roland Micro Cube. They're pretty cool if your needs are narrower.

+1... I've never seen a bad piece of Carvin equipment.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

i have an egnator rebel20 that i like, & got pretty cheap thru fleabay. it doesnt have the high gain of the Oranges or Blackstars, but takes pedals well. i think the cleans and rock tones were a bit nicer than the Orange terrors, and MUCH better than the blackstars.

mesa mark IV was a great bedroom amp when I had one.
surprisingly the JSX is also really good at low volume.
I'm on my 3rd one now (I keep coming back to them because they work so well at low volumes and you can score them for so cheap.)
I use it with my Axe II as well the power section is clean enough that it work swell with the Axe.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?
