Never had an actual practice amp once i got rid of my first amp, a Kalamazoo (and a sears amp i used for a Mic). But i did have a Peavey 'Backstage Plus' that i used as an onstage monitor that i sometimes used at home instead of carrying the big stuff in the house.
Any time i needed 'quiet time' (parents sleeping, tour bus playing, etc), I had a head phone unit. A Rockman Soloist. I still use it today. But the new headphones that are available these days make a big difference.
I think a previous poster makes sense. These newer units. Multi effects units. Amp modelers. You can headphone, direct to pa, usb, ipod input.
And then, whether its my old unit or the new stuff...
For ten dollars you can buy computer speakers that sound really great. Use them with the guitar units.
I'm looking for a bedroom amp myself. I dunno if Randall do an amp with 12" speaker that operates at low wattage. Otherwise, I may have to check out one of those 5w Blackstar amps.
Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

This right here. 4 watt Cygnus Crosley Champ clone. RIP Kevin thanks for a great amp. But the Yamaha THR 10 is a great amp too. For a modeler it sounds and acts just like a tube amp.
surprisingly enough these amps actually do sound really good at low volume
so does the YJM sig model
+1
Actually, I have the 410, Mark 5 and 5153 (50 watt) in the man cave. All 3 sound very good at bedroom volumes but they sound freak'in incredible when opened up I think all three of these amps utilize the preamp section almost exclusively for gain and run a clean power section.
Blackstar HT-50 head using "emulated out" and in custom ply cab that I had built and shipped from the US. The Original cabinet is WAYY....oversized. Also a Blackstar HT-Dual Pedal with emulated out. (Currently trying a friends "Pandora Mini" - sound OK at best). Next up is Guitar Rig 5. Soon as I can get my interface to my Behringher interface to be recognised by the Macbook Pro.
I guess where I was going with these is an all-tube tone bedroom amp, where you can also flip a switch or whatever and bring it along to do a band practice or small venue gig.
But if you're just looking for a straight-up small bedroom amp for nothing but low-volume home practice with good tones (but not used for anything else), I'd consider going with a Roland Micro Cube. They're pretty cool if your needs are narrower.
I just picked up the "Crate profiler model5".on ebay. its prob.crappy but well see when it gets here..its all I could afford for the moment..Barry ..but for all other uses, nothing rocks like my jcm2000 TSL.and 800 series cab.
You can't beat modelers at bedroom volumes. Get you a GDEC.
Yep. I have a Vetta II HD with two Line 6 4x12 cabs, running in stereo. I also have an older Flextone II combo. Either will give me exactly what I love at low volumes.
Small Blackstar ID series, or Yamaha THR10. They are both quite a bit better than the Line 6, Roland, Fender modelers. I loved my Vetta when I had it, but it was too much. I still have a toneport and all the software, but the Yamaha and Blackstar kill the modeling.
The only real full sized head I have now is a VS100. Nothing does the Marshall sound on the cheap like the old VS heads/combos, lol.

A friend is running an IRT60 on stage & it's a good sounding, versatile amp. I'm intrigued by this new rack dealio
dude! For that price, can you afford to NOT buy one?
My Ironheart is fantastic at high and low volumes and watts. Its loaded with features, has 3 great channels with the crucnh being my favorite. It can be loud or quiet. It has multi-voicing options and was a steal at $500. I'm tempted to get the 60 or 120 watt Ironheart amps. They're fantastic and have their own sound to them.
