I decided to let go of my JSX because I couldn't use it at the volume it needed to sound good so I picked up an HT5 combo. Good sounding little amp warm cleans and the gain is better than I had expected. Any tube amp guys that can help get a little more gain out of it? I have an overdrive pedal in front of it but feel it just needs a little more. Would a new preamp tube kick it up a notch?

I had the HT-5H, I stuck in a Shuguang 12ax7B and didn't even really need a boost for a good hard rock/British metal tone. I still use them in my Marshall 900. Got em here http://www.ebay.com/itm/One-New-Box-...item53ed46dc0f

What about a good high gain metal tone? It does what you say pretty good and while I like it I want more metal out of it. Was thinking about abdexent effects processor I just don't want all the extra fluff they throw in themIt's pronounced soops

I wound up putting an eq in effects loop and it helped it tremendously. The gain is there it just needed an eq to shape the gain stage. I just need a better OD pedal as I sold my ts9 and wylde overdrive. The bad monkey pedal picks up chinese radio and it has a constant squeal when the pedals on and a noise suppressor needs to be maxed out to cut it out which bugs me to no end. I like the amp a lot though. Haven't played plugged in as much in a very long time. And check their site it has a really good recommendation on the settings for high gain that wasn't what I would have gone for but works great, it also needs reverb. It's pronounced soops
