    Maxon GE601 Reissue

Don't let the fact this pedal has only 6 bands throw you off, the GE601 is surprisingly good at a number of different roles. Depending on your needs it can go in front of your amp to boost your guitar signal or be used in the loop as a volume/level control. It gives you 12db's of control to cut or boost and a master level to manage your sound overall. It works nicely as a single coil pickup simulator or pull wah like tones from the treble without getting harsh and it shines when setup as a solo boost. The GE601 allows for a nice transition to a solo without a sudden smack in your face from a huge volume jump and that annoying "click" you hear from the pedal being activated. Its operation is smooth and quiet for the most part and it can add some coloration to your amp but you have to really turn up the levels to make that happen. The pedal is designed to be transparent so having it as a clean boost to fine tune your amp's tone will put a big smile on your face.

Pro's: Well made with seamless and smooth activation, doesn't add any noise or static to your rig, is surprisingly versatile, brings its own unique nuances and characteristics without coloring your sound, stands out as a solo boost and a clean boost, and fits in nicely with all of my amps.

Con's: It's only 6 bands, price tag is $159, hard to find in stores.

I am a big fan of my MXR 10 band. I used it in the loop of my amp and it was always on. I had a CAE clean boost pedal I used for solo boost.

Yeah I used one with my old 5150II and then switched over to a Maxon OD 820 when I heard all the stuff Andy Sneed was doing. I always had good luck with MXR's.

Never tried the Maxon but love the MXR. I have that one and the KFK. Same thing but stereo outputs.

I swear that MXR 10-band EQ is like Coca-Cola to guitar players.

By the way could you believe I said Andy Sneed? I meant Sneap.

Too expensive for a 6 band. Its not any better to my ears than a Boss GE7 at a 3rd of the price

Yup Boss served me well on many occasions over a period of 20 years give or take.

I find the Maxon to be cleaner and it doesn't bring the noise and it's transparent so it doesn't sound like anything. Did you try one?

I have the MXR KFK 10 band EQ. It makes mild amps wild. I love it with any amp though.

Never tried one and frankly.. I don't feel the need to have anything cleaner or more transparent than a good old stock Boss GE-7 or an MXR 10 band. BTW... the Boss and the MXR have been industry standards for probably 40 years at least. I do think the MAXON is a nice color though.
