I know the axe/fx is the shiznit but its way out of my budget. I picked up a Boss ME-70 and I really like it but have been hearing the Line6 Pod HD500x is the way to go. Anybody have experience with either? How is the GT-100 in comparison? BTW this is thru a Laney AOR

If you just want effects Boss is always better than Line 6.

The Boss GT units have great effects and are more flexible than most anything out there. I love my GT-10. Downside to all that flexibility is that they can be complicated. I've got a lot of time invested in my GT.

Thanks, looks like I'll stick with what I have.

I use a GT-10 (with a AOR lol) and it took me awhile to find something that I dug. Almost returned it to GC a month after I bought it, and in a last ditch effort I tried something and it was badass. I actually use the amp modeling with it (can be turned off) which isn't to popular around here. My setup is simple; Boss into the FX Loop of the AOR, and the Boss is set to the amp modeling of a Marshall midscoop. And at a toe tap I have delay for leads.
          Gear:

          Jackson DK2M (07')

          Jackson PS-4 (99'?)

          Charvel Model 5 (86')

          Randall RG50TC

          Maxon OD-9

You could also try the TC Electronics Nova System. I've seen them as low as $199.

                I have an HD500 (not X).
I wanted it to be a complete replacement to my live gear. Its slowly working its way there, but after 20+ years with my old stuff, I am not comfortable going cold turkey. The ultimate goal is for me to carry a guitar, pod, and a bag of accessories (tools, strings, etc).

But I have always liked the Boss stuff. If I was using an amp, or didn't mind lugging around my rack, then I would probably not have gotten the Line 6.

**although, if I still used a Talk Box, I think I would be screwed. The Pod couldn't power it.

Another Boss user here, GT-10. Love the effects and tone. The interfaces are not user friendly, though. That's something Line 6 definitely has down better than Boss. Been meaning to try out one of the HD series, I hear good things about them.

I used to have a GT-8 (loved it) and got rid of it some years back. Been thinking of getting an ME-70 or something similar now.

That would be ideal. That's beginning to be my goal. The thought of not lugging combo's, heads and cabs around is appealing. I'm getting too old for that shit....

I have to agree about user friendliness...or should I say friendlessness. I started with the ME-50 and loved it but I wanted the fx loop/4 cable so I moved to GT-8. The learning curve was pretty steep but the flexibility the GT offers is worth the effort. This is the first time in my life that I had to read a manual rather than just playing with something to figure it out. I am still learning but because the features are there I learn about them and progress. It is well worth the time.

Yeah, the Boss GT units are complex. But as mentioned earlier, they are more flexible than most anything else out there. When I had an AxeFx Ultra, there were features it didn't have compared to my GT-10...and I missed them.

I read the GT-10 manual 2 or 3 times and spent time on the (now defunct) GT Central forum to get a grasp on all the GT-10s features. But I can now do pretty much anything with ease.
