Boss ME 50 bought used for 175 bucks, in great shape, with manual and adapter. The previous owner's settings were still on there and I still use two of them to this day. As mentioned, the process to learn all of the capabilities is daunting but once you get there, it's a very capable tool and sounds KILLER thru my set up- Marshall JVM and M412A. I do opt for a separate wah pedal in the line, but everything else is ME 50.

I just bought an ME-80 about a week ago. And yeah, it's somewhat complicated. Since I'm ditching the Vetta and going with tubes again (Splawn), I decided to get a multi-effect unit rather than a bazillion individual effect pedals to deal with.

I love my HD500X. I 4 cable it with my XXX, and the midi out goes into my Voodoo Labs Control Switcher to change the XXXs channels.

While I was saving up coin for the Control Switcher, I just used the POD as a preamp and ran it into the power amp of the XXX, nobody was the wiser, and people complimented my tone nightly.

I also use it to record, since it has 2 signal paths. I dial up a nice dirty to track with on one side, while the other side is untouched for reamping.

I can't think of a better way to spend $500
