Ok I know these things are old but I have never used one so its all Greek to me.
Don't have the manual and all the you tube vids are either kids or Indian guys that talk so fast who knows what the hell they are saying?
Came across one for a fair price so I will try to learn how it works.
To be honest my rack unit Intellifex is easier to use.
I have figured some things out but its not looking good so far.
Some of the presets are nice I will say that but programming changes is a PITA.
It may end up in a dumpster in a week or so.

I have a GT-8 as well. They are cool, I use mine in manual mode for the effects and tuner only. I dont use the presets at all. Don't toss it in the thrash if you don't get along with it. I would possibly trade/buy it if so. Get it a fair shot, it is a great tool for the box.
I like black and white guitars

Manual seems to work the best so far for me.

GT-8 was probably the first piece of equipment that I had to spend hours reading the manual. It has so many options there really isn't much choice but to RTFM.
Once you do get the hang of it the next challenge is trying to edit/change patches with all the knobs and buttons. It is a real PITA to accomplish simple tasks until I found GT-8 Fx FLoorBoard
It is a nice program when connected to GT-8 with MIDI cable lets you manage everything from the computer. It gives you a graphical representation of the signal chain with effects and settings.
You can also download/save/load patches into the GT-8.
It is a must have for GT-8 and it's FREE!

I had a GT8 years ago... I really liked it. I didn't use it all that much after awhile and traded it off, and I kinda miss it, though.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

I just don't know why making something simple to use isn't the way things are done anymore.
My Johnson J station is very simple to use.
Even my Johnson millennium head was easier than this GT8.

I guess I'm the odd one here.
Never even cracked the manual on my GT8.
Didn't seem all that hard to figure out.

I would love to know how to clear the previous owners patch settings and start over with mine.

Here is the factory reset procedure from the manual.1.
                    Turn off the power.
                    2.
                    While holding down PREAMP/SPEAKER On/Off
button and [TYPE VARIATION], turn on the power.
The Factory Reset range setting screen appears in the
                    display.
                    fig.09-070d
                    * To cancel Factory Reset, press [EXIT].

Can't see any changes but I did get something in the display but it wasn't any thing that changed. Those shitty saved settings are still there.
This thing is annoying as hell.
15 year old kids are getting great tones out of thees on You Tube but it ain't happening here at my house.
There are some decent OD settings and cab emulations but not a decent clean tone anywhere that doesn't have something nasty about it that I can't remove.
I guess I'm too old to figure this crappy tone box out.Nothing it does makes any sense.
Give me an amp and some pedals and I'm good to go.

Are you using the loop on the GT-8? How are you connecting it? The GT-8 has 2 preamps and using the 4 cable method you can either use your amps preamp or one/both of the GT-8 preamps.
Using the 4 cable method you can also chain your effects before/after the preamp, just like an amp with a bunch of pedals. Some between the guitar and amp and some between the peramp and power amp. If you are just putting the GT-8 in front of the amp you are missing out on all the versatility offered using the 4 cable method.
The method of connection and the proper output settings on GT-8 to match your connection method makes a huge tonal difference.

I am using the 4 cable method into my Blackstar HT studio 20 half stack.
I did run it thru the front of my 1 watt Marshall custom offset and it sounded decent.
