  • NRAD - New Reissue Amp Day - with pics!

My Carvin X100B in Black Western vinyl arrived today. The tone is AWESOME right out of the box. I was an idiot to trade my X100B years ago against a Marshall JCM800 2210. I could and should have just bought the Marshall straight up if I just HAD to, and kept the Carvin.

    Anyway.....

Nice! I play V3Ms. How does it compare to the one you let go?

Honestly, it's been too long and I can't remember. But based on what I DO remember, it's very similar. Plus, back then I was playing it across a KMD 4x12 cab (which I still have) and I'm sure that affects the overall sound a lot.

Love the old x-100B's. I'm sure the new ones are just as good. They take od pedals like a champ.

You made the right choice with the black western vinyl. Carvin better send you a nice Christmas card this year, you have been a good customer.

Yeah, they do. I tried three different ones across the drive channel tonight, plus a distortion. For now I've settled on the HardWire SC-2 Valve Distortion. It just sings.

I'm not so sure. Since the guitar side of the house seems to have had a falling out with the others and they've split up, they might each consider me a traitor.

Cool looking amp. Love the western tolex. Bought a roll of that stuff when I built a SLO clone. That stuff is bad ass!

That is sweet! I always wanted one of those old X100Bs. How does it compare to say a 2210? Does it have enough gain for you, or do you need pedals?

Wow. I can't believe I went a MONTH without checking this thread. Sorry about that.

It needs pedals for the overdrive sounds I like. There's quite a bit of drive natively when you pull out the "Lead" knob, but I'm not crazy about the texture of it. Too much sizzle for me. Instead, I use the regular Overdrive mode and boost it with a Hardwire Valve Distortion. It's the smoothest of the ones I have.

Holy Time Warp..wow that's nice. Reissue? Recently I passed on a nice used V3. I should have bought it.

Carvin is top notch! You don't come across many used ones at all. They must be keepers.

I loved my 2210s..had two of them together before my Rack. I'll grab one whenveer a nice one comes my way. Everything must be like new for me. I always kept my Carvin and basses, guitars like new.

                        Congrats.

I've been having a long look at the X100B. Sound clips online are amazing, and what a bargain.
What are your gain and master settings on the amp when using OD pedals?

Is it different than the original? I found the original to have an outstanding clean channel but the gain channel was very fuzzy and not suitable for anything other than classic rock.

                              I'm using:

                              Lead - 1
Drive - 7 (Lead Boost is Off)
                              Reverb - 5
                              Presence - 6
Bass, Mid, and Treble are all on about 4.5
EQ is assigned to Drive channel, Mids slightly cut and Bass and Treble slightly boosted
