Discuss.... I have the chance to get one. I drooled over this amp when it first came out. It seemed that all the monster players at the time.. Demartini, Lynch, Gilbert etc.... used this amp. It was boutique high gain before the term boutique even existed. The guy wants a fair amount of money for it and its cosmetically challenged but I was thinking it would be amazing for my 80's Arena Rock Hair Metal band. Does anybody here have one?

this is pretty much the Lee Jackson Perfect Connection GP-1000 in head form.

sounds pretty good if that tone is what you're looking for. I've seen lots of mods for them too, some are by Lee Jackson.

He is at $500 firm and its cosmetically challenged but comes with the 3 button footswitch and is in good working condition.
I would like to be more like $400 but that's not going to happen. Its been for sale for a while. Its not an amp that most people know or care about and if he took it to a pawn shop or Guitar Center he would be lucky to get $200 for it tops. I would guess more like $100. Ebay had a few sell that were in excellent condition for between $700 and $1000 but condition is a huge factor I would think.

my M-1000 is one of the only pieces of gear I would like to have back.

Super, SUPER Fucking loud. M-1000 on 2 = SLO on 5. The tone was instant Zakk Wylde Pride & Glory with an LP.

That's seems to be the general feeling of people that have owned this amp. Its stupid loud and they wish they still had it.
I am most likely going to pull the trigger on it tomorrow.

For $500 it better be in bad shape if you're not grabbing it

Cosmetic condition is just that. if everything is working and working well hen who cares what it looks like. make sure there are no weird hums or crackling pots. tolex is pretty easy to redo so don't worry about it.

Hopefully I am going to get it on Saturday morning. Fingers crossed. Nobody else is interested in it. He has had it for sale for a while now.

So I am still on the fence about buying this amp. Its cosmetically challenged with the cabinet having a lot of wear to it and the large front gold plate needs some paint work and its missing 2 knobs. Other than that.. the amp is in fine mechanical shape. I have never heard one live and I have to buy this one without actually hearing it. What I am afraid of is that old "it sounded great back in the day" thing. I currently have a lot of amps. I love high gain. I don't like to use outboard overdrive or distortion pedals. I like my gain to come from the amp. Lately I have been using my Peavey 6505+ which has more gain than I would ever need.
So... does anybody have experience with this amp? I can get it at a good price so I was thinking about its investment potential but I would also like an amp that I could use live in my 80's metal band.

I would get it. If you can ship it you can at least move it on Reverb or EBay. Even if you disliked it you out it up for 400 it will go and you have paid 100 for a rental fee on a piece of gear you always wanted to try. You also might be able to get more for it.

If it is actually in working condition, tonally it is like a JCM 800 with a bit more gain, but not a truckload more. It is also not a super saturated tone (Marshall lineage).

If you aren't going to boost it, I don't know if I could say that it would have enough gain for you, because I've not heard the sound you shoot for.

And if you can't get it loud, you might as well spend your money elsewhere

I didn't care much for those at that time. Prolly rare these days and have/market value if anything.

I bought two new Ampeg Lee Jackson VL-100s that young Zakk endorsed. One came with EL34s, One 6505s. Those didn't sound like Marshalls. I had Soldano SL60 and 2203, 2210 all thru a custom 4 way splitter. Ampegs had a 5-way mid voice switch. One Lee Jackson caught fire with extra tolex being tuck behind back grill, touching the tubes..duh.

I always bought stuff I didn't mind being stuck with until I sold/trade.

                          Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM PICKING UP THE AMP TONIGHT! Its an early production model Series 1. Anyway.... this is one of those impulse buys. I don't need it. I just WANT it! A full review will be in order tonight after I put it through an intense workout.

Just because you don't need something doesn't mean it couldn't ever end up being something you want to keep
