  • EVM12L anyone else using them

finally had a chance to crank up the amps and really give them a good test. The presence knob can make them really bright, but I'm sold. It makes my rectos clean channel so much crisper tighter sounding, but not harsh. It does take a little more fine tuning but that maybe me still learning the amp at high volume. high gain, fast chugging they don't mush at all. Maybe not as thick sounding as the V30s or C90s, but the clarity and snap is well worth it. Even my little egnator rebel 20 sounds better thru them. It does miss the break up of the celestion but a little more kick from the OD pedal problem solved. The eggy was much easier to dial in than the boogie may have been a lack of a presence control but the result was similar. Plus I now have a egnator 1x12 cab that will easily handle almost any head and it sounds killer. I would love to try one of those theile cabs w an EV in it to see how much of a difference that makes.

I had an 85 Boogie 4X12 with the EVM's and it was a great sounding cab with the bottom 2 speakers in closed cab and the top two open.
That was running my 85 Mark III blue stripe head head.
How they run with other amps I have no clue.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

That has been my speaker of choice since 1989. They make everything tighter. I HATE speaker breakup, so when I discovered the EVM, I was sold. I have 7-8 of the originals sitting in boxes waiting to be installed, lol. These days I DO use celestion speakers with some of my amps, or for different tones when recording, but my go-to is ALWAYS the EVM12L.
      GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

I used them in the past. Very clear. Very punchy. Great for super loud palm muting chunk. The downsides are.... they make any cabinet or combo extremely heavy to carry around. Also... they lack the character that many Celestion speakers have. Especially V30's, T75's or Creambacks.
Bottom line for me... if I was playing crazy loud and had roadies like I did in the 80's I would be using them. Those days are over.

Hahahaha, yeah, for sure! Try a 4x12 with 4 of them!! I HATED moving that thing. Thankfully it was on wheels. But once it was onstage, the tone was to die for!!!!!

At home I run my Mesa Mark III combo with the 1x12 EVM12L it came with and a 1x15 closed back EVM15L as an extension.

I had one in a 100W 1x12 combo years ago. The 30th ann Marshall. I remember it being very loud and punchy. That combo had to weigh near 100 lbs.
