  • Orange Tiny Terror Combo Review

Just picked one up last night. Took it home. Played for so long my fingers hurt. 1 x 12. 7w/15w switch. All tube. Volume, Tone, Gain. Input. That's it. No effects loop, no other features. Very well made compact 1 x 12 combo. Decent sized. Decent weight. I would say around 40lbs.
    Very portable.
You guys all know me. I am an amp guy. I have owned just about every brand and model amp on the planet! lol.....
I am a tone snob. SS, tube, modeling, hybrid... I don't care. As long as it sounds good I am down with it.
I have been on a tone search probably since 1975 or so.
This is my first Orange amp. I have heard them live. My buddy has a Rockerverb 100 head. I have heard people playing Orange amps at Guitar Center. Anyway.. here is my review of the tone.
This.. I believe.. is the tone I have been searching for just about my entire life. Its perfect. The gain structure is in between classic and modern. It has the perfect amount of gain. Its full bodied. Very reactive to the guitars volume knob. An absolute joy to play.
The gain and tone controls on the amp are absolutely amazing. Just the smallest amount of tweaking can get you from Thin Lizzy to Whitesnake. Roll your volume down a little on your guitar and you are in Tom Petty Refugee type gain. The tone control is almost like a parametric sweep. It changes the dynamic of the amp. Same thing with the gain control.
Anyway... if this amp had an effects loop it would be perfect.
I believe that Orange is my brand. I am selling all my amps and going Orange. Even my Rivera. I may even buy new. That would be a first!

Appreciate the review, always do, especially from a long-time contributing amp guy. I don't even care that pictures aren't included. But wouldn't a video/audio review make more sense than a written one?

You can just google a Tiny Terror Combo. There are a million of high res pics of them. Mine looks just like every other one. Its orange, its square, it has a few knobs on it...lol...
Maybe I will try to figure out how to post a video with audio. Never did it before. I am too busy buying, selling and trading amplifiers!!

I have the sneaky feeling that there are many JCFr's who have cruised into a local music store that sells Orange and have seen these micro or mini Terror amps. Dark Terror, Tiny Terror, Jim Root whatever that is, the Dual Terror.... Rockerverbs, etc.... and have never tried one. My suggestion is to go to your local store, plug into one and check it out. I think you will be very happy you did.
I didn't do the research yet but I need to find out if Orange makes something similar to the Tiny Terror but in around 30 watts with channel switching and an effects loop. If so.. I am buying it. Head or Combo.

        Check out the orange TH30.
It can run at 7, 15 or 30 watts and has an effects loop.

I have a Dark Terror... I have a MXR M108 in the loop. That's it. I plug direct. I can get great technical/brutal death tones... it also handles downtuned amazingly well... I can nail Carcass or great doom/sludge/stoner tone as well. It does modern gain and retro gain very well.

Best tube tone I've ever really had, IMO.

Exactly. That amp blew me away. So much that I just picked up a thunderverb. I AB'd it with a number of Amos... It killed my uberschall. It's just amazing. All of there products. I am so sold on Orange right now after trying everything.

The axe version of it really sucks imho. The axe kills with the Friedman but I thought the Orange and uber both were terrible compared to the real Amps. The axe nails a lot but that's not one of the things.

You are looking for the dual terror head or the th. The th has the effects loop the dual doesn't but the dual is voiced just like tiny the th is closer to the dark terror in its voicing.

Yep... this brand is legit. Its the tone I have heard in my head that I have never been able to get 100%. Orange is awesome. I am now searching for a TH30 or a Thunderverb. I may even go for the a Dual Dark or whatever Dark has an effects loop. The tone of the distortion on the Tiny Terror is so open, grainy and saturated and clear at the same time with so much midrange and tightness and looseness.... all at the same time its perfect. Its like having your tonal cake and eating it too. This little 1 x 12 combo has the roar and the presence of a full stack. The most useable 3 knobs on an amp that I have ever twisted. Volume, Tone, Gain. That's it. Perfect.

John I would sell my thunder verb only because I am looking at a dual dark. Let me know. If you can get away with one channel though go with a dark terror.
