So Thursday at work we take a break and I'm looking at the Craigslist app on my phone. I see an ad for a "Marshall cabinet and GK 250ML $200". Not too horrible a price if it were a decent cab, so I shoot the guy and email and think nothing about it. Never heard back from him.

So today I'm looking at CL again and I search out his ad. It is still there so I text him to see if he has any pix of the amp and cab. He responds with pix. It is a 4x12 1960a. Hmmm. $200 and you get a GK 250ML and a 1960A? Hmm. So the guys says "Are you interested?", and I tell him yes. He calls my # and gives me directions to his house. I ask about the cab. He says it's a JCM 800 cab...and that he has the head too, if I want that but it needs a bit of work. Oh. He also says he'd sell that for $100 more. Okay....


So 20 minutes later I have this...

So she came on, but was running way hot so I shut her down immediately. Off to the tech on Monday I reckon. So for about the price of a used cab I got a combo and a JCM 800 head. Not pretty, but at least the cab sounds fantastic....we will see about the head...

She was recapped today, had input jacks replaced and rewired, and had some resistors replaced. Also got a switch from 6550 to EL34 and a rebias.


Verdict..holy crap. Amaze balls. Great amp.

Yep. $300 for the GK, 2204' and 1960. Cost a bit to get the 2204 up and running. The GK is being deep cleaned..might need new speakers as the foam surrounds are disintegrating. The cabinet sounds amazing. The 2204 sounds amazing. The GK will sound great when serviced..sounds good through the cabinet as is
havent plugged in the two Ibanez Soundtank pedals the seller threw in...don't hold out a ton of hope for them but...lol.

I so love jcm800's. Side question how do you like the red eye cabs? Carvin doesn't offer them but how do they sound? I have a good ampeg cab but I always intrigued by the redeye

The pedals were the Phaser and Powelead OD.


I like the Carvin cabs a lot. I had the RL1000 head too until it developed transformer issues after years of hard use (4-5 times a week for 3-4 hours at a time for 5 years...plus whatever happened to it before I got her) and it was nice too. I got the RL1000, row 410 and 115 Red Eye cabs, and a Peavey MAX700 head for $300 back in 2010. It served well as the rig in my rehearsal studio. I sold the Peavey head and paid for the rest of the rig, so in essence, it was free!
