Let's talk about ENGL amps.

Hey guys,
As usual I'm on a hunt for a new amp and cab or a killer combo. I'd like to go play a ENGL as they look very interesting and right up my alley for what I hear in my head for tone.
Does anyone know where to go demo them in the PA, NJ, NY or even Maryland area?

Also if any of you play ENGL , what is your favorite? Tell me about the different channels. The Invader 2 looks awesome. The ENGL demo video's are amazing. The difference in tones they get out of that head is incredible. WOW what an amazing versatile amp. But without sitting in front of it and playing though it, video's online lie. Prime example of that is the EVH 50 watt head which I owned for all about 4 days and returned it. It made me sick to my stomach that I had to return it but it just didn't work out for me.

So what do you guys think about ENGL?

When I think Engl, it's perhaps not as tight as VHT/Fryette or as thick as a Boogie, not as gainy as a Peavey/EVH, or as much character as a Marshall
but it has all these things and elevates it to their own standards

Yeah I agree with this. For myself personally I played powerballs and fireballs. They did not sound good with a second guitarist at all imho. They just didn't cut great. They sound amazing though out of a mix and I assume they record pretty well too. I actually went to Vht after having Engl's both times. The Vht stood out well in a mix but also sounded kinda icky and dry by itself.

Generally speaking, Engl make modern and really solid amps. They are really well-built and have all the features you'd expect from modern amps.

I have the E530+E830 rack and had a Sovereign before that. I've been using it on and off with the band for years, and I like it a lot. I don't particularly like the Powerball or the Fireball, but the Invader sounds good in the demos I've heard and I've been thinking about getting one myself on multiple occasions. The Artist Edition (what used to be the Blackmore signature amp) sounds great too but does not have so much gain. They also now have a Marshall clone called the Retro and from the demos I've heard it sounds really good.

Ok so when your playing with another guitarist or in a band, these amps in your opinion don't do well. Like the Mid Range is weak right? Mid range is what cuts.
Sounding amazing by itself is a huge plus as I play by myself a lot. But not having the ability to play in a band is a huge negative.What's the point right?
VHT amps I hear come up from time to time but I only plugged into one 11 years ago when Russo's had on on the floor. I'm not sure if it was brand new or a used model traded in but I remember it sounding fantastic by itself. It was a head and 4 x 12 cab 2 channel. It was very Soldano like if my memory serves me correctly with more gain.

Sweet man and it seems like you had no cutting issues? I'm assuming you didn't or you would have moved away from them.

No, that was never an issue for me but I suppose it depends on what the guitarist in your band plays too...

I have the Powerball II and it kills. I don't play out but it is good enough for Judas Priest to play out live I am sure you can get it to cut through the mix. Amp is super versatile.
