  • EH Metal Muff with Top Boost

The big pedal. The one with the 3 band EQ on it and 2 buttons. Just curious if anybody uses this pedal live into a clean amp.
To my ears.. at home... either whisper quiet or turned up to ear bleeding volumes it sounds really great for metal. It has kind of a midrangy, slightly out of phase honky tone to it. Reminds me a lot of George Lynch's guitar tone on their album Tooth and Nail. Lots of gain, very tight bass response, lots of harmonics, reacts very well to delay and I haven't found an amp either SS or tube that it doesn't sound good on. Its a fairly unique sound because its so aggressively voiced. Reminds me of a Boss Metal Zone with a GE-7 dialed in perfectly. I think... its going to sound great tonight and it will be VERY easy for the audience to hear so I won't have to turn up quite as loud as I usually do... which is usually a little too loud!
Still.. I have never used one live before. Tonight is the first time.
So... does anybody here use one live?
I have a ton of other pedals I could use live... Fulltone OCD, Fulltone GT-500, BBE Blacksmith (great pedal btw...), Bad Monkey, Tube Screamers etc....
I just am really digging this Metal Muff. BTW.. the top boost feature if used sparingly.. is absolutely useable!!! I think.....

I use one into a clean amp in my home studio. Never tried it on a gig. Really dig the 3-band active EQ.
I haven't been able to figure how to use the Top Boost effectively, but generally love the pedal. I wish they'd
given it a solo boost function instead of the Top Boost, but still way cool...
