  • recorders...4 track, digital etc. Any advice?

I'm looking to pick up a recorder to play with at home. I'd prefer something with built in drum/rhythm tracks. Digital or analog doesn't matter so long as it's clean. An ouput to teh computer (USB, etc) would be good for burning tunes. I was looking at a couple Zoom and Fostex units. The most I wanna spend is about $500, but cheaper could always work too. Any opinions on good or bad units? Stuff to avoid or stuff that made you squeal with joy?

I used to have one with all the built in crap. It was the Boss BR8. I hated it. I dumped it, and will now buy a seperate unit for recording, and a seperate drum machine, or just use the computer for drums or recording. Builtin units sound good on paper, but once you get going, you keep on wishing all that crap was gone..........

The ZOOM MRS units are really cool; probably the best out there right now. But to be honest, you might rather go with CakeWalk's guitar tracks or whatever it's called. $99 for the pro version, and it's got drum tracks and all kinds of cool stuff.

Why not use the computer as a drum amchine and record with the computer as well, ie. Cakewalk?

If you can't/won't go the computer route, I would suggest the Zoom MRS-4. 4 tracks, can record two tracks at once, some built in effects etc. Pretty good unit for the price, fairly easy to use.

I have a couple or MP3s in the mp3 section, all are using the MRS-4.

you can get it for around $229.
