• Mesa Quad Preamp users?

I've owned a quad for several months and love the thing, it smokes my 5150 I had before.. Anyone else here use/used one? I dont have the kind of cash for a mesa power amp but ive used the return through a mesa mark iv and a mosvalve 962. I thought it sounded incredible when i got it but the tubes were old and microphonic, so today I just received 8 new jjecc83's. But have no guitar nor power amp to use! its killing me! lol

I just wish it wasnt so damn big. eh.

My first preamp was a boogie studio preamp, then i moved up to the quad. I used for many many years, until I got my triaxis. The clean tone is amazing, as is distortion. I loved all the little in between tones it could get too.

I used it with a 50/50 boogie amp, a midi octopus to switch it, and a bbe, and it crushed.
oh, and it has a gnarly spring reverb too only real bummer was it took up 4 rack spaces.

it's apples and oranges.. the triaxis has 8 different preamp sections in it. I would say the triaxis is more smoother if anything, not as harsh, and it has the IIc+ and rectifier sounds as well. Plus it's programmable, and it controls the switches in my 2:90 as well. not real cheap though, you can find them used around 800ish.
