i have a newer single recto head, recto 4x12, and play a KV2 and a gunslinger, both with EMG 81's. I've got Mesa EL34's in it now, and get a great lead tone, but it seems to go from 'not enough gain' to 'mushy' or 'farty' when palm muting chords. with the EL34's, my current settings are bass 12:00, mid 7:00, high 12:00, presense 7:00, gain 1:00....i get a nice crunchy midrangey sound with these tube, just not enough'usable' gain,or so it seems...the 6L6 tubes just seem devoid of any good lead tone, but i didn't spend much time tweaking with them, so there may be something there...
