Well, I goofed in the wiring but fixed it - so now after a frustrating week I present... the Soldano Atomic Champ!
Basically I took a silverface Fender Champ that was a little rough cosmetically, and made sure that no collector would ever want it again.
I drilled a hole in the chassis and put another 12ax7 tube socket, then ripped ALL the champ guts out, leaving only the stock sockets and transformers. I also pulled the stock speaker jack, since it's a phono type. Put a nice 1/4" neutrik jack in there, drilled two more holes for my extra knobs, and wired in a preamp section that is pretty much a Soldano atomic 16. Left the power amp section pretty much as is - it's a Single ended 6V6 powered cathode bias amp. Oh, also has a 5Y3GT rectifier - I left that alone too.
I need to tweak it a little further for gain and eq - the thing does feed back uncontrollably at full master volume and gain, and hisses like a desert sandstorm. But, at regular volumes it's fine. Right now it sounds like a really hot JCM800, which isn't a bad thing at all. Controls are: Preamp volume / Treble /Bass / Mids / Master Volume.
Pics and clips to come soon... possibly tonight. I spent all morning debugging the damned thing and I'm ready for a nap.
