  • Guitar -> Amp -> Effects Loop problems

Forwarded on behalf of my bud Gary:

    -------------
I am running a Digitech GNX2 thru the effects loop of a Carvin SX300 head
and a 4X12 cab with Celestion Vintage 30's. Starting with a Strat with EMG
single coils, I go into the amp then thru the effects loop to add the
thickness to make it sound like a humbucker and to use the wah pedal and any
effects (chorus, delay, etc...). It sounds like I have strings made of beef
stew. However, if I go from the guitar to the effect proccessor then to the
amp with similar settings, it sounds great. Anyone have any tips, tricks,
suggestions, etc...? No, I'm not able to buy another guitar with humbuckers
in it and the one I have is reserved for my own recording (the Strat is
tuned CGCFAD and the other guitar is standard tuning) and no I can't afford
any more hardware. I've tried as many EQ combinations as I can based on
Bass, Mid Freq., Mid, Hi Freq., Hi. The gains are from -12 to +12. Big
mess? Yup. Anyone who can offer serious and meaningful advice please help!
    Thanks
    Gary T

The input on that GNX wants a guitar level signal, not an fx loop send signal. I'd run guitar into GNX into fx loop return.

      Exactly.

If he wants a humbuck sound, he'd be well served by one of the stacked humbucks that are in the single coil style pickups.

      Good luck!
