Thinking about getting a POD, any help on which one would be nice the XT or the 2.0?

Thanks,

Had a 2.x and the XT. Get the XT. It's a lot more fun to tweak, and the options are nearly endless... Pick one of 32 amps. Then pick what speaker cab. then pick a microphone (one of four) then pick distance from the cab.

Then you have an optional compressor and a gain boost in front of the amp. And a noise gate.

Ok, now you get to pick a stomp box:

Tube screamer
Fuzz Face
Big Muff
Classic Distortion (I think it's a Rat)
Octave Fuzz (think Hendrix)
Blue compressor
Red Compressor (one is Ross, can't remember the other)
Vetta Compressor
Auto swell (kinda like a slow gear)
Auto Wah

Then you had modulation effects:
sine chorus
analog chorus
line 6 flanger
jet flanger
phaser
Uni-Vibe
opto tremolo
bias tremolo
rotary drum (ie leslie)
rotary drum w/horn
auto stereo pan

then you have delays... everything from analog to digital to tape delays (tape delays you can affect flutter and condition/how dirty the tape heads are!)

Modulation and delays can be put pre or post preamp too.

It also has a decent tuner.

USB digital recording, or analog out recording

It absolutely kicks butt. Plus the van halen tones are fantastic!

Here's a budda emulation w/a tube screamer in front:

I have a ton of others all over the place - from Van Halen to fender clean to metal, etc... I can post whatever you want to check out.

Two thumbs up from me!

Pete

Pete, i've been thinking about getting the XT, but i have a few questions that maybe you could clear up. One is, how does it sound when being used as a preamp? I ask this because i'd like to get something like this for my Metaltronix. Another question is, How does it work for switching to a different setting? I know that you have to store them, but is there a way you could hook up a footswitch for hands free operation? Thanks...

Definetely get the XT. I had the 2.0 and I sold it just to get the POD XT. It has WAY more flexibility than the 2.0 and for recording it sounds better.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You footswitch it with midi. As a preamp, it's going to really rely on your poweramp... and most people would prefer a tube preamp over a POD just for how it feels.

I did it once at a band practice and the guys thought it sounded great, but it felt weird to me. It would work great in a pinch or as an emergency backup, but I wouldn't want to gig with one if I could help it.

The Vamp 2 or Pro does not even come close to the POD Xt. The quality of the models in the Xt are way more authentic sounding and also the POD Xt is way deeper in the parameter adjustment category. The Vamp's seem like they are meant to drive the front of an amp more than a direct recording device or in loop preamp setup. Much like the Boss ME-33 or Digitech RP series all in one units. But try them all for your self and find what suits your needs.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You have to get the new floorboard - I think it's called an FBV or something like that. I'm a MIDI idiot (...MIDIot?? ), so I'd HAVE TO HAVE the Line6 Floorboard. I's another $275, so I thought I'd hold off and I just bought the POD 2.0 instead since I already have everything I need for that. Maybe I'll float one on my GC credit card for 30 days (actually 29 - then return ) and see if I really like it that much...

I have the PODxt, and it absolutely rocks for recording. You do have to tweak it a lot to get the great sounds--but they're in there. Also, don't judge the PODxt based on the presets--they suck. Several of the high gain amp models aren't really that great, but there are a couple that make the xt worth buying--the "Spinal Puppet" model and the "Insane," as well. Also, the xt gets great clean sounds that are very full-bodied, unlike either V-Amp or POD 2.0.

I used to use the V-Amp upgraded with the 2.0 chip, and the xt blows that one away. I did prefer the V-Amp to the POD 2.0, however.

I'm a midiot too, but the Behringer FCB1010 was really easy to set up w/the XT.

Will any midi control board work? I have a Yamaha MFC06 which controls 5 banks and then 5 parameter settings in each bank. I'm a "midiot" also too as well

Working at GC I get the opertunity to check out the stuff first hand without buying it.
I tried the V-amp 2 and it sounded pretty descent thru the head phones. he I decided to run it thru a MArshall DSL 401 effects loop return so I was just using the power amp of the MArshall and it sounded like @ss in every sense of the word
I couldnt get any good tones out of it. Not even the sounds I got in the headphones that sounded good sounded like buttocks when going thru the Marshall. Now the EL84s may have had somethign to do with it but I doubt it. Ive since sold a cpuple because of their price and the people like them so go figure.
The XT is by far the best one out there as far as realism and charactor. The POD 2.0 has a deep editing function to thru midi using the included soft ware and your home computer. You can get almost as deep as the XT. Go with the XT it's much more versatile and worth the money.

Hey Riotwatch go to Guitar Center in Matthews sometime and try out the PODs there, and the other Line 6 amps while you're at it...you might like those better! I will probably go there tomorrow, I have to go out to get a Fathers Day present for my old man.
