One thing is true: most anything he gets
will be a big improvement over a 10-watt
Squier with an 8" speaker!! Your main point is most true though; it's the player more than the gear, and that takes practice! A better amp inspires practice
but don't expect it to do the job for you

Yeah it was $320 to start off with, but Id prefer to spend less. And "The Parents" ( [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img] ) want me to spend as little as possible. See theres an 8080 in a shop up the road from me for £150 ($230ish) and so the amp from Matt would have to be less than that. If you get what I mean. I dont actualy have the money saved up. Well I do, Ive got a certain amount in a bank account, but see if I spend more on the amp, Ive got less to spend on a car. If you get me. Its also really hard finding work in this sh*tty backwoods town I live in lol.
And Im also expecting it to be the best amp in the world and be able to do a thousand different tones from jazz to blues to death metal, but I dont want to spend more than $20 [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
Greatly exaggerated, thats what Im thinking.
But Im also pretty down on the guitar playing at the moment due to like exam stress (now over thank f*ck), women troubles (i.e. getting repeatedly f*cked over by them), and car troubles (not being able to afford one) and my band pretty much falling apart. I dont want sympathy Im just letting you know. So if my amp requests seem unrealistic, its probably cos I subconsciously want to keep it so that its the amp requirement stopping me from doing stuff, rather than myself. If you get me. an 8080 from the US to the UK, with more likelihood of damage in transit across the Atlantic than down the road from the shop to your house. I'm sure Matt would
like to help, but overseas freight is costly.

Jamesy, I'd get a decent amp and start woodshedding! Forget the women and work
on your band. You not having a giggable amp may be contributing to the band's problems, and if the other guys feel you don't have the ambition to get yourself an amp, why should they stay interested?
If they're still not interested, you'll have a decent guitar and amp, which NOT having stopped you from the audition around Christmas, right?

You have to have an amp at least big and loud enough to keep up with an unmic'ed
drummer to be taken seriously auditioning
for a band. I'd rather have a nice amp and a crap car than vice versa, and the extra $110 will boost your amp quality more than your car quality! I'd still look for the Transtube Bandit over the 8080, as that 8080 can't drive an extension cabinet. Still, the 8080 would be minimally okay to gig with; nothing smaller will do.

If you are going to figure $230 is too much to spend, you can forget about getting a decent amp or being in a band!
Every other guy had to buy his gear too,
so they're not sympathetic about you griping about wanting a great amp for nothing. Bite the bullet! Buy the amp,
practice hard, get in a band, play out, and then get a girlfriend with a car! See how easy that was? [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

No-one else in the band has decent gear either lol, Ive got the best stuff (apart from my amp [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] )
I think what im going to do is sell my Model 3 to the guitarist in my band, who's had his eye on it for a while, for just the right amount of money to buy a Bandit, then go and buy one, then everythings kinda sorted. Ill have a good amp, and the irish b*stard will have a decent guitar [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] Now all he needs is commitment and a decent amp too lol.
(!!!moaning section!!!) The band Im in is just mates messing around really, but we all have different musical tastes. Im heavily into thrash, death, and melodic death (mainly), whereas the other guitarist/singer is into the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Queens of the Stoneage, Megadeth and Metallica (wtf? lol, I know), the drummer is more into (proper) rock than anything, but also likes most of my music and is a pretty big Slayer and Arch Enemy fan (even though he wants us to play Bon Jovi and Meatloaf lol), and the bass player grew up on his brother's Anthrax records and likes all sorts of stuff now. So we've decided to meet at 80's thrash. But me and the other guitarist have always messed around with the blues and toyed with the idea of forming a blues band. Now we've decided to get some blues recorded (begging/stealing/borrowing recording gear from mates with musical families lol), the drummer and everyone else in the band is like way more keen to get this blues idea off the ground than they were with the thrash band. Which I kinda find a bit insulting really. If you get me. Im just oversensitive lol. But it is annoying when Im trying my ass of to get this thrash band off the ground (buying mic stands, looking for places to practice in and gig) and no-one else seemed to care about the band when it was thrash. Now suddenly when theres been a unanimous decision to make the band a blues band, my hearts obviously not really in it anymore, and I feel a bit let down. Im tempted to get the f*ck outa there. Seriously. Im thinking of leaving the band I started. I mean my life revolves around my music, and all of their lives revolve around their girlfriends [img]graemlins/brow.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img]

They're probably excited about the blues thing because it's easier to do a good job on a blues recording than a thrash band. Also, it's MUCH easier to get PAYING gigs playing blues than thrash or
any metal these days. Troy's old VENTT
bandmates Matt and Karmen decided to go for blues I think mostly for that reason.
(There may have been another "official" reason, but getting paid to play is nicer
than paying to play, ar not getting paid enough to cover the cost of playing!).

Jamming with your buddies is one thing, but there'll be life after this jam band
if you apply yourself to it. You can start taking your Bandit out to open-mike
nights and sitting in, and you'll find other players that way. Watch your gear like a HAWK though, at every gig; stuff
"walks away" if you don't watch out.

Ever noticed how my posts, as soon as you get involved in them, become really deep and about my feelings and stuff [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]
The website I used to use for classified ads (and got a few guitars off) has now changed, so you have to wait seven days to get the contact information, rather than three, if you dont pay. Now Im not gonna subscribe to some website on the offchance Ill find something, but whenever I ring up about the Peaveys once the seven days has happened, they've always been sold [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img] obviously. Hehe.
Ive put my details and everything on a band finding website so hopefully Ill get contact from some like minded people.
There used to be a blues jam night down the road from me in this pub, which was really good. Most of my mates didnt like it cos they're all like more fashionable than me and have short hair, and I fitted in with my long hair and boots etc hehe and they just kept getting funny looks from the bikers [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] It was a decent rock pub, with live music on everynight. But its changed owners now (like in the past week), and its become a bloody sports pub now, with a big screen TV and football (english football) on all the time [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img]
Ah well.

Well, I'm an old geezer so I've been through similar times as you're having now. I sympathize and you can tell that, I reckon.

When you have different needs vying for your money, step back and figure out what you need the most, and address that first. You can try to address 3 things at once and be spread too thin to accomplish any of the 3, but dealing 1 at a time you can take care of business, and
gain confidence in the act. Frankly, if the car's more pressing, maybe the amp should wait (Ouch!), BUT if the amp could
enable you to earn some money, then maybe
that's the first place to spend!

Maybe you should find a blues gig for money and a thrash/death gig for fun. It'd be interesting playing the blues on a Charvel, but Albert King plays a Flying V so why not? [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Have some fun at it, whatever you do!!

Laneys have plenty of gain!I have a GH50L head and I play death metal,it has a good tone too and it is pretty cheap too.

I'm just going to repeat what's already been said, just to reinforce the good advice of buying a Peavey. My TransTube Express was constantly being borrowed by friends who liked the sound. The same was true with my ancient Special (130 model I think), which I bought used for $80. My brother has a Bandit and an old Heritage-series head. Aside from a Jackson Apogee tube combo and a Randall bass combo, all of my amps and cabs are Peavey, right down to a tiny Solo mini PA that I bought for my girlfriend. Other than `77 Special that I bought in questionable condition and needed to repair, the only Peavey ever to die on me was a mid `80s combo that sat in a musty warehouse studio, plugged into a faulty electrical socket that also took out one of my beloved ART preamps.
