They didn't make a three-channel rackmount Recto - I'd have one if they did. I'm assuming both guys that mentioned this had three channel heads, and went back to the rackmount two channel versions.
Personally, I think you're both nuts - the three channel (at least the Triple, which is what I have) seems to me to have a much tighter bottom end, isn't quite as shrill, and you can get a better lead tone out of channel two than any older Recto. (The "raw" mode is pretty cool for recording, too.) The rackmount DOES sound better than the two channel head, though. Of course, that's my opinion - YMMV.
