Re: Voodoo Lab preamp

I had it demo'd to me at the Voodoo booth at NAMM this past Winter, but didn't play it myself. I'm always a little iffy, if they seem to just wanna demo it, I don't bug em to try it hehehe. Anyway...

It had a pretty decent high-rev Marshall kinda sound, to me, which I think is sorta the sound they were going for. A lot of these preamp-only units sound weak, kinda dull and lifeless to me. The Voodu had a pretty thick, tubey sound, and pretty "alive" sounding. I'd be interested to stick one in my rack and see how it compared to my Egnater Marshall emulating modules. As in, on its own, I wouldn't get MY nasty thrashy sound out of it, but I'd like to see what my other rack junk might do for it. To me, the sound is only 2/3 of the equation, and it's gotta have good feel/response to make it a good unit. Sometimes the sound and response can both be completely saved by the right support gear.
