Exactly how much louder is a 100 watt amp compared to a 50

I know it wouldnt be 100% as loud, but im guessing around 30% louder? This is if im playing through a halfstack.

It should work out to 3 db louder (100%). For a 3 db increase you have 2 options, double the power or double the cone mass (speakers). This would be true if the speakers did not heat up and become less efficient. But when you lose the efficiency of the speakers, you need even more than 2X the power to get the 3 db increase. If you ever get a chance to measure a band live, you will notice that 2 or 3 bd will be a huge change in percieved sound level. From low volumes to medium volumes the power to db level will be fairly linear, but at some point the curve will start to die off and get worse and worse until it is horizontal. Your biggest difference will be in headroom - the 100 watt amp will stay cleaner longer and will also be tighter at the same volume level. The 100 watt amp cranked will be a bit louder. To be honest, if you need to crank a 100 watt amp live you have roadies and shouldn't worry about any of this tech crap. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

ok kind of off topic here but if every 3dB is twice as loud would a 35dB computer fan be half as loud as a 38dB fan too? My fan now is 38dB and its unbelievably loud. I can hear it when im in another room.

3db is not twice as loud, you just have to double the power to get a 3db increase. 3db is noticable though.

That is correct [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img] Although 60 db is speaking range, so If you can hear your fan in another room, it must be due to the frequency spike of the fan
