If one minute your amp sounds great and the next time you play it it sounds bla or flat, is that a possible tube problem? If so which, power or pre-amp?

Probably. Try pre's first as they are cheaper.

This may sound stupid and is probably in the amp, but if you have multiple pickups check you switch. I was having a similar problem and it was the switch on my guitar. It would kick a$$ on mimute and sound like crap the next. This was on a Gibson type switch. Prabably not the same as your problem, just another option to look at.Comment

The power tubes are about a year old, BUT I don't play everyday and only maybe an hour or so when I do play.

Well, it's hard to say really. You'd probably be suprised at how much better it will sound with fresh tubes. Tubes degrade SO slowly that it's misleading. You don't THINK it sounds any different or worse than it used to, but it's such a subtle change over time that you don't notice.
If you can, just re-tube it.Comment
