• V Amp Pro

I just noticed this unit is about 1/3 the price of the Pod Pro. Has anyone compared the two? For $199 US it might be worth having around. Any experiences?

Re: V Amp Pro

I wondered too, but haven't tried either.
Since everyone seems to say the POD XT is
better than the V-Amp2, and those are both the rackmount versions of the desktop models, I'd say it's safe to think the POD Pro is much better.

The question then is, if you can afford
$199 but not $699, will the V-Amp Pro be good ENOUGH to give you what you want? I guess you'd have to try it to see, and then an A/B with the POD would be needed to decide if the difference is worth $500
to you. Diferent people will have different answers according to their needs and budget.

Which doesn't really tell you anything useful, does it? Sorry Dave, I'm just thinkin' out loud!

Let me know what you think if you try one though!

Re: V Amp Pro

I had a V-amp and PODxt until recently and have played through the regular POD before. Of those, I found that the PODxt sounded clearly the best, but the choice between the V-amp and POD comes down to your personal preference in sound--they sound really different.

The V-amp is brighter sounding, with more presence and 'immediacy', but the POD has more available gain with a bit more punch in the low-end.

The Pro versions of each one sound the same as the tabletop versions--the only thing the Pro version gives you is rackmountability and more connection options.

Re: V Amp Pro

if you want to compare the two check out Breakout on my song page(online rock site)

i'm using a pod pro (and start the song so you can hear my tone 1st)and Andy Gavin is using a les paul through a V amp(i used my modded roadhouse strat)

imo both a great tones, but the v amp is damm cheaper as you have mentioned

I personly think the v amp/Jstation are great units designed for a more modern tone(high gain on those baby's rock)

the pod pro(all i use as it has Every tone i need)is a more rounded slightly more tamer tone machine catering for older ears..lol

but for the price the other two are killer

Re: V Amp Pro

Apparently the V-Amp Pro actually has a better cabinet modelling section, taken from one of their DI boxes or something. It supposedly sounds much nicer than the cabinets in the V-Amp 2. I've personally never tried it out though, although I'd like to, being a V-Amp 2 user myself.

In terms of flexibility, it's not really fair to compare the POD XT to the V-Amp. The XT is really the next generation of modelling, whereas the V-Amp is more comparable to the POD 2.0.

Also, if you're only looking for something for recording, then you might want to look into the Line6 Guitar Port. I'm actually currently looking into one of these myself.

Re: V Amp Pro

Crap, when I said that the V-Amp Pro had a better cabinet section, I only meant in comparison to the V-Amp 2, and not compared to the Line6 stuff...
