Sweet Lead Sound (WTF is it?)

Ive been going thur my In Flames and Dimension Zero records and in a couple of thoses solos (ex. Dimension Zero - Through the Yrigin Sky) they use an effect that sounds like the same note but in a differnt ocatve? Now is that just a rerecording of the acutal solo but in a "harmonizing" scale or is that an actual effect?

In flames is harmony laden. They often record 3 different guitar tracks. The Dual Lead sound. I don't think there is much for effects going on. It's just two lead guitar lines going at the same time. I couldnt' tell you about dimension Zero though.
