Soldano SP-77 and Mesa Boogie Quad question

Do either of these units require a noise gate or are they faily quiet units. I am in the process of saving up for either one (depending on the deal at the moment) and I think either will handle my needs. Just trying to figure out if I would need to get a gate for the one I get.

i had a quad preamp for many years.. on the 4th channel it's VERY noisy when the gain is maxed out. the clean and in between sounds were very quiet as far as i remember.

I have a sol Sp77 and like it alot, its quiet for me... no noise gate hear
