• Ahhh somebody help me. More amp problems.

So I just bought a Mesa / boogie Studio .22 on ebay.

And well, playing it, it seems pretty good sounding untill sometimes the sound just sort of cuts out or dims strongly. It seems to happen randomly.

I tried fiddling arround with everything, no avail.

So does this sound like a tube issue ? or a speaker issue ? The speaker inside is pretty old. And the tubes i think are the original tubes from the 80's .

Can anybody diagnose my problem ?

I dunno if this helps, but the tubes dont seem to be glowing blue (like tubes that are on thier way out). They seem to be glowing orange just like normal. :hrm:

Im worried about not being able to get it bias'ed. Will that be a huge problem ?

What about the power tubes?

dont those need to be rebiased ? or could I live without it for a while ?

I don't think the EL84's need to be biased.
I could be wrong, though...

Most Boogies are at a set bias, so as long as you buy matched power tubes (pairs or quads) you should be all set.
I am NOT famliar with the Studio series though - check Boogies website or give them a call - they have always been good at getting back to me in the past....

I dont have the manual, but how would one find out which brand of EL84 would work without biasing ?

Also does anybody have any recomendations to changing tubes without getting yourself killed by shock ?

Im currently reading about tube replacement. Seems like a difficult thing.

Maybe this is a novice question, but could someone explain to me why the "lead" channel has all the distortion and crunch to it. And the "rhythm" channel is very clean ?

Maybe I just think as lead and rhythm differently ?
