• Problems with my 5150 combo...help me out plz

i got it used like 2 months ago..
now my problem is that the lead channel starts changing volume, it gets louder and softer and the sound gets really trebly...also the postgain pots are making noise if i turn them...

what could this be? tubes maybe? this is my first tube amp...

probably the tubes. see if they are seated in the sockets properly. but you most likely need to replace the tubes.

What color are the power tubes when the amp is on?

I'd try replacing the preamp tubes first. Try replacing the first two tubes farthest away from the power tubes.

There's usually a retaining screw holding the cover down.

Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

Those retainers twist out, like a tail lamp bulb in a car.

MAKE SURE THAT THE AMP IS OFF AND HAS BEEN OFF FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR!! Coming from someone who's been burned more than their share of times.

Unplug it. Shut it off and then turn the standby off ( in the position it would be in if you were playing) and the power switch on so that it fully drains all the power out of it. It sounds like tubes.... A good excuse to me to go by all new tubes and have some fun. I like Svetlannas in the 5150's and cheap chinese tubes for the preamp section. Good luck!
