• Pedalboards: What do you use?

What are you all using for pedalboards out there? I've seen some by SKB and Boss. Anyone have any recommendations? How are the built in power supplies on these things?

Re: Pedalboards: What do you use?

Funny you should ask, I just built myself a new pedalboard last weekend. It's got a Crybaby on it, a space for the Boss tuner pedal I intend to buy here shortly, a Dunlop power supply, and a powerstrip for running the Dunlop and my MIDI pedal from. I've never paid for a "real" pedalboard, for me a piece of plywood is best. If durability is an issue you can screw some channeling iron along the edges provided that your piece of wood is thick enough (I had the hook up on that stuff at my old job). If I were you I'd plan one out and build it...it takes an afternoon and you get something that fits your needs instead of something mass produced.

I use an SKB and it's OK, but I'm still working on a diamond plate topped board that's a lot more versatile. I got it a long time ago, but never bought a power supply for it. The one on the SKB seems to be pretty good, but they are not isolated from each other like a Voodoo Labs(?) power supply is.

Re: Pedalboards: What do you use?

I haven't had very good luck with SKB, at least not the PS-25 or whatever it's called. Not a problem with Boss or DOD pedals, but my ART and Digitech stuff wouldn't run off the SKB's power supply.

Currently, I am using a homemade board. It houses five pedals with room for one rackmount unit (or more, if I stack them), with a Furman PlugLock for power. It weighs a lot, but it's pretty similar to what most music stores use for pedal displays, plywood with black carpet.

I use the SKB PB25 and have no issues with it. I have Boss,Ibanez,Pearl, and Arion pedals on it and they work fine. No power issues or anything. But it did fry my ART X15 controller . Oh well it was used anyway.

My MXR eq runs at 18 volts so I'm not sure if a built in supply will run that pedal or not.

I just spoke to the folks at MKS about their Pedal Pads. Looks like it's pretty versatile stuff. They confirmed that their power supplies can't yet power an 18 volt effect but recommended a power strip plugged into the AC outlet of the power supply. I had a very informative conversation with them and they gave me really detailed answers for all of my questions.

Re: Pedalboards: What do you use?

I bought a PS-25 board and fitted it out with all my velcroed pedals and even had ac inputs put in my MXR Phase 100 and Micro Chorus but have never actually used it. There is a pic of it here in one of it's forms. I pulled out the wah and just use that. Couldn't be stuffed tap dancing all over the place, just need a good sound really. What I would like is something programmable so you can hit one button and get a whole bunch of your effects, I think it can be done but it may cost a bit. Without going to Bradshaw that is!!

Vic, it sounds like you need one of these. I've never used one personally, but I really like the idea of having something that's almost midi for switching pedals.

I use one of these and either a custom power supply or a pedal power.

Re: Pedalboards: What do you use?

A home made pedal board and a VooDoo Labs "Pedal Power" is the only way to go!!! The SKB board was a little too wimpy for me, epecially when useing my Wah pedal. It just bent and flexed too much when useing a wah wah pedal. I couldn't power 18 volt pedals with it and it was too small for all my pedals and switching devices.
