  • vht fatbottom 2-12 or recto 2-12

Hey guys I started a thread a while ago on getting a lighter amp cause the 4-12 recto was just too much to keep hauling around . I decided to go 2-12 instead of changing everything and wanted to know if anyone had an opinion of which would be a better choice in cabinet the mesa or vht.Got the powerball head and like heavy thump but also like the mids to shine thru at solo time . Thanks.

I ditched all my other brand cabs, for Marshall JCM900 cabs, weahter they be 2x12 or 4x12, they are simply great for me, I shine through the mix.

Not to argue with Johnny... but I have a recto 2x12 and a recto 4x12... the 4x12 sounds better to me... but it is a heavy *****.

Hey Dreamland is it the same weight as the horizontal model and how does the head fit on it?
Hey Matt did you use the same speakers in both cabs I know you like the 90's were they the speakers in both? Thanks

I had a Mesa vertical slant 2x12 (not a Recto version) with Vintage 30s. Tons-o-thump with my Recto and DC5 head. I also have an old school MEsa 1/2 back 4x12 w/Black Shadows. The 4x12 seems to have more thump and sizzle. The 2x12 has more mids and it's a bit more brittle sounding (but not in a bad way). I like the compact-ness of the 2x12 but my 4x12 is also very narrow...it's the exact width of a Recto head. I prefer the 4x12.

Have you looked into the GenzBenz cabs? I've heard good things about them.

Yeah, both of my cabs have the 90s in them. The 2x12 seems to have a little more midrange in it, with the 4x12 scooping some of the 700-1.5k out of the sound...

the 2x12 vertical has vintage 30's in them which i like the most out of boogies speakers. its just wide enough to fit the standard medium length heads on. i like it much better than the horizontal cab. the box is wider and just sounds better.

I think the 30s are standard on all their cabs... I had to order mine with the 90s.

BTW, Johnny I'll see you guys on the 8th with TTD.

forgot to mention that i like the 30's better cause they break up easier and give a tighter low end.
