So has anyone tried the new Traynor amps?

I always liked the old one, sorta in between a Bassman and early Marshall. (And a steal @ 2-400 bucks you can get them for now)

I have a YCV 80, combo. Great sound, both clean and dirty. I would love them to make 100 watt head but they have yet to deliver. Mid scoop on the dirty ch and an expander (mid boost)on the clean.

I found my amp to be great if you don't have to push it passed 7 (Pre and Post). After that it gets too mushy for me. Mind you I play death metal.

They told me there was plan to make a 100 watt head.

You can pick up a Guitar Mate combo that's only 20 watts (2 EL84s) if you need low volume, and they're in the $250
range pretty consistently. A sealed back
1x12" 20 watt combo is pretty cool. You can get the new YCV 20 for that matter but it's about $420 new.

Jim, how much for the Mark III shipped to 39540? Just curious.

Also...They come with Celestion 70/80's. Nice and warm. The warrenty is great too, I think they will replace any part including the tubes (Sovtech power and pre) even if you break it for two years.

Its a cool amp, but I already have an amp that does all I need.

The cool thing about that era, is if you are into trying wiring mods, there is plenty of room in the chassis to put stuff. Also, the top is a lid that removes so you can work on the chassis in the cabinet. You should see the power transformer in this thing, it is a HUGE Hammond that must weight 20 pounds.

Didn't the guitar mate have a 7" speaker? I really like the sounds of 12" speakers better, the smaller ones sound a bit boxy or honky sounding.

I tried the YCV 40 out thinking it would just be a quieter version, but it sounded totally different, not nearly as flexible. I think price difference is minimal too.

The Oxblood looks verry nice though.

I guess I should of mentioned what kind of tone I like well here goes.

On the dirty side
AC/DC
ZZ Top (Tush has one of my all time favorite tones)
Judas Priest (British Steel era)

Overdriven tone
Black Crows
Old Aerosmith (toys, mama kin etc..)

Clean
Brian Setzer

Hows it do with those sounds. The scoop switch has me worried, if anything I like a mid boost. I'd look at getting one of the old ones but they are louder than I really need.

I have an old Mark 3 I would LOVE to get rid of..the trouble is its too damn heavy to ship and get any sort of money out of.

Oh yeah, the YCV will do all of those nicely. You wont even have to use the gain boost for those. I can get the fat blusey tone of Tush and I rip out the odd AC/DC tune now and then too. You will like the clean ch for the Setzer stuff. Very classic clean. Even with my EMG 81's.

The amp is more suited for that stuff than the stuff I play.

[edit] As for the mid scoop....If you don't use it you will have plenty of mids.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">They made 2 versions, one with a single 12" and one with 4 8" speakers. I would want the 1 12" personally, but some seem to really like the 4 8"s instead. They
are on Ebay regularly, but if you want modern EQ and channel switching than the YCV20 is your best bet.
