Ok I like the sound of a Uberschall for rhythm but I like the sound of the Slo for lead so do I get 2 heads (no I can't) so do you think I can get a nice lead tone out of a Uber or a nice rhythm tone out of a Slo. Which would be an easier task? I like both but can't afford both. Any ideas?

Apples and oranges bro.
You can get great leads and rhythms out of both amps. But, they'd be different. Great, but different.
I think in a general sense. The Uber is what a recto should have been, and the SLO is what a Marshall should have been.
Nonethless, I "sorta" think I'd say exactly what you are. I'd lean to the Uber Rhythms and the SLO leads...
So, I bought a rack and a CAE3+se, a VHT 2150 and some outboard gear.
Maybe someday, they'll make an Uber Preamp. I'd be the first in line... Well, maybe...
I'd be pleased with a 5150 preamp haha...

Thats what I thought John but I like the Uber a little more but I'm hearing its hard to get a good cutting thru lead tone out of them. I'd hate to put a pedal on a 2000 dollar amp you know what I mean. Have you gotten a good lead tone out of a Uber while maintaining a crushing rhythm tone?

The Uber lead sound was pretty passable with a volume boost. I'd figure with some switchable EQ and delay in the loop, it could do very nicely. I never got that far with it.
It was here for a year. I liked it, but I always went to my CAE rig and plyed that...

Re: Ok Gearheads this is a ? about Bogner and Soldano
If you want that then get one of the older CAE 3+ preamps and mate it with a good power amp. I had a 3+ and can honestly say it was the best most versatile preamp I have come across. Personally I think the 3+ is John's dream amp. lol And he knows that. More amp than a hacker like me needed. I also love both the characteristics of the two you mentioned for the same reasons. And the 3+ is the best I've heard that would get you the closest to both worlds. Otherwise I think you'd need one of each dude.We must!

Re: Ok Gearheads this is a ? about Bogner and Soldano
how does the egnater IE4 compare to the good old CAE 3+ ???
Is it supposed to be able to get that b00tal tone as well?
because we've had a hard time making it sound like anything more distorted than a Van Halen recording.
I like the egnater's lead tone. but it definately seems to be lacking.... maybe you guys have some settings to suggest?

Re: Ok Gearheads this is a ? about Bogner and Soldano
I haven't tried a Egnater personally. But I did listen to the amp fest post john put up. I like the CAE 3+ the best out of any preamp I have heard recorded. Live I would have to do a side by side comparison. But the best I've played would be the older 3+. One thing I've found with any of these preamps is that tubes make a huge difference in the way they sound. And experiment with different tubes in each socket. Throwing a set of one kind of tube in doesn't make the changes that might be right for you. Certain channels like certain tubes. I have a formula of a tube combo that I like but someone else may like it changed slightly to match their taste. We must!

I can get some very good lead soounds from my Über... but for really sweet singing leads, I still rely on my Marshalls mostly. The trick for good lead tones from the Über is to crank the presence pot which will boost the mids quite a bit and works well for leads. Also keep the bass at 12:00 or less. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd go with the Über... I've played the SLO numerous times, but never liked the tone.

Re: Ok Gearheads this is a ? about Bogner and Soldano
I had the Egnater module that emulates the IE4's channel 4 for my M4 preamp. It was VERY midsy, to my ears--much more along the lines of hair metal than thrash. I didn't care for the sound at all, and I'm sure that Egnater wouldn't have released the module unless it really did sound like the IE4's channel 4.
Sometimes, people just have to realize, an amp is only so much as an amp can be, regardless of its price. If you buy a $3000 head, like its basic tone, but find that adding an EQ or BBE that costs $100-300 would give you the PERFECT tone, isn't it kind of silly NOT to spend the extra bucks? I mean, really? That's kind of like saying you could have bought ultimate guitar you always wanted, but decided not to when you saw it, becuase you didn't like the pickup rings. DOH! Just buy new pickup rings for the thing, what's so horrible about that?
My M4 preamp cost me way more than I should have spent on a preamp. I got it home, and realized...hmm...this won't work without a LOT of other stuff added, but its basic sounds are just what I want, and after trying a lot of other stuff, I didn't feel there was much other option out there. What'd I do? I added on stuff until it was as right as I could make it, as perfect for me as possible...and I'm sure glad I did.
Don't let silly principles get in the way of achieving the sound you want, when you're fairly sure you already know how to get there. If you do that, you're just holding yourself back for absolutely nothing, and you'll probably never be 100% satisfied.

Hey Wizard of Ozz how is your sound for rhythm with those settings are you compromising the tone at all? Has anyone tried the Slo with the depth mod does that give the amp more bottom chug?

Re: Ok Gearheads this is a ? about Bogner and Soldano
Right now I am running two rack heads... The Rectifier rack head for rythm and The Soldano SLO Rack head for lead and it is awesome. Big $$$$ into it though. It sounds great. i get the sizzle high gain for leads and the chunky bottom for rythm. I also run eq's on both heads through the loop. Each head goes to its own cab too. I use an amp switcher to turn each one on and off. Anything is possible P I K A if you have the dough to blow. If I only had one it would be the SLO. I can get a pretty good rythm sound out of it with a parametric eq in the mix.

Re: Ok Gearheads this is a ? about Bogner and Soldano
I was doing some searching and came across the VHT UL that has 3 channels. Two for gain and a ton of features gain stacking and so on.I've got to do a little more research and try these amps out cause with 2 gain channels it seems to answer my question. Maybe it won't get the extremes I'm looking for but I can probably get some killer tones.

Re: Ok Gearheads this is a ? about Bogner and Soldano
After tweaking my Uber a lot, I agree that to get the perfect lead and rythem tone you have to dial in the presence knob just right. The Uber in my opinion is an unreal amp and can get a very nice lead tone. I also get an amazing clean out of mine as well. I just got the Uber cab and it compliments the head perfectly. If the world were perfect you could find a lot of amps with just the right amount of gain and tone for leads and rythem without doing anything. But life is not and that is why the ones who do amp mods stay in business.
